We now live in a much more advanced society. Our conveyances use more oxygen in one hour than 40 elephants in 1 year.

There is no such command in scripture. You are either mistaken or lying.
The penalty for fornication (sex outside of marriage) was either marriage or death, not slavery, and it depended on who was responsible for the act.
If a young man seduced a girl, he had to marry her, and her father could have him whipped publicly. If he was such a scumbag that Dad would NEVER give his little girl to him as a wife, he could still be whipped, and would STILL have to pay the necessary fine (which would be the same as the local "bride price").
If a girl went out and fooled around with her boyfriend on purpose, Dad had a choice: marry her off to the boyfriend, or execute her for disgracing the family.
Please note this is not part of the moral law (10 Commandments, etc.) but was ancient Judaic custom. Also, we have progressed a little beyond the Pentatuch in Theology: Christ has come, and has authorized simple little things like GRACE and FORGIVENESS. Ever heard of those?

Gee- care to quote where it says that? it does not say that anywhere- so its going to be awfully difficult for you to find that- don't stay up too late looking!
And there is NO penalty for pre-marital sex in Judaism. There was no forced marriage for a woman since it had to be with her consent and she could withhold it! Yes- marriages were often arranged, but the girl could refuse if she chose to!

It simply does not apply to Christians.
The line is drawn between the old and new testaments.
Substitute "covenant" for testament and you'll get the idea.
We study the old to learn more; about God and his will, history and culture, and for the prophecies about Jesus Christ. I also just love reading psalms, proverbs and Ecclesiastes. There is a lot of truth and wisdom there.

This is Old Testament . . . Christians don't follow most of the Jewish laws, like not eating pork, not wearing fiber-blended cloth, etc.

Because there are Christians who also acknowledge that we live in the 21st Century.
Quit generalizing

be very careful of taking Scripture out of context - especially historical context. There are also passages that state she should be stoned.
That's how those who don't understand try to confuse and foster disbelief
