I'm so bummed "Big Love" is over for the season! Great Finale!

I just find it interesting to see an inside view of how positive polygamy can be instead of what we hear, such as, older men with underage wives.

I know that Mormons don't practice Polygamy but there are a few that do...I just want your take on it. Are there any Mormons who have watched it? And if so, do you like it? why or why not?

I'm discussing a Drama Series and would like feedback and opinions on that and only that.

Thank you pono7. And I agree with you that some programs do give a false depiction of Religions and should have a disclaimer.

I have seen people try to ask this question before and no good Mormon seems to watch it because they find the very idea offensive, but too me it seems that the show portrays their objections well enough. It is clear that the Hendricksons and polygamists are not welcome at the LDS church and that is a part of why living in Utah is so difficult for them. The polygamists themselves however identify closely with the Mormon church since at one time the church did practice polygamy and Joseph Smith himself had many wives back in the day. So it is definitely not mainstream but a sect or cult if you will and I think the show is accurate to that portrayal. Interesting to me is that everyone seems to think the show portrays polygamy in a positive functional light and I don't get that from this show really. I don't consider the family any more healthy or functional than most soap opera families you see on TV. I mean I guess if you compare it to living on the compound like most people do, it seems a lot more sane, something people could relate to living in the suburbs in three side by side house, but in my opinion it seems like a pretty complicated dysfunctional way to live that plays itself most clearly in the adolescent kids. I wondered during the finale if they were even happy with their suburban lives. Joey and Bill seemed to reminisce about the good old days living in "the big house" and how much easier life would be today if Roman never came to power and they were still in "the big house" so although they are making a go of it in the outside world it seems at least half of them would like to live at the compound, out in the open.. if they could be in power.. lol.

"mormons" don't practice polygamy. Those that are polygamist are not affiliated with the LDS church (mormons) there secluded colonies that live outside the law, that take some mormon doctrine and make there own religion out of it. They are in NO way mormon. I briefly have seen the show, a freind of mine was watching it in the background when i was over there. Personally i don't care for it. I would never watch it myself. I think it has caused a lot of confusion on what mormons ACTUALLY live like, and what the definition of a mormon is. I think glamorizes something that in the world, the way it is practiced is anything but glamorous. I think there are a lot of prejudices and misconceptions that have surfaced with a frenzy after that show was aired. But truly, I don't think i would have as much a problem with it if they had a disclaimer or something before or after the show, indicating that it is not a reflection of the members of the LDS church. Yes there are people out there that practice it, like Waren Jeffs and sicko's like that, but that they are not mormons. Then I would say air it all you want- at least there woudln't be so much confusion.

I don't know much about the Mormon religion. I do know that, that show is awesome. At first I was like....hmm a show about polygamy...nah no thanks. I'm totally addicted to the show now.

My favorite wife used to be Margene, but I now have more respect for Barb. She is starting to speak up for herself more. I think Margene is tired of being treated like a little girl with no say, so she's taking desperate measures.

I think Ana is curious and interested in the lifestyle. And Nikki...don't get me started on Nikki. She needs to shut her friggan mouth. Oh she gets on my nerves. I don't trust her.

Alby and Roman look like they could really be related.

Wanda is a lunatic..I could go on and on about this show.

I LOVE this show. i just started watching this season and it is the 1 show I tune into EVERY single week! :)
I think it is very interesting and realistic (not meaning the mormon religion-just the concept, how they all interact, the problems they face, etc) Its kind of like a real life soap.
I did feel like they could have done a few more episodes though. .
