What is wrong with us?For goodness sakes we're all Americans. Why are we telling each other to leave this country just because we have different views on how to handle illegal and legal immigration?Don't you think this would be the time to pull together and act like a nation instead of children? What do you think, has it divided us that far?

Generally I don't like to link up two separate issues into one, so I'll leave the Iraq war alone. (But where the dickens is the exit strategy?) LOL

Yes, it would be the time to find solutions, but the two views are so diametrically polarized on this matter that I don't believe a compromise is available that either side will find acceptable.

Further complicating the issue, this is as much an international issue as it is an U.S.A. one. Solutions will require the support and partnership of other nations. And with Mexican senators blathering about Elvira's rights in the US and wanting to castigate the US for deporting her, I'm not looking for any modicum of intelligent reasonableness coming from that direction.

And yes Mexico and other Central & South American countries are the primary stakeholders here. While the pros like to scream "it isn't all latino illegal aliens" (and it isn't)....it is 72%, so if you start there then you deal with the lion's share of the issue. Then you go forward.

Interesting question. Nothing is wrong with us. We are a nation of laws and when Americans are hurt by those who do not abide by our laws we will react...

I believe this illegal immigration issue has United Americans. We have spoken and Washington has listened...

As you know the vast majority of Americans want the laws of the United States followed. While we may sympathize with the majority of illegal immigrants we now realize the failure of the last amnesty bill. Since the last amnesty bill passed we have had an influx of 12 million more illegal immigrants. This undoubtably proves that amnesty doesn't work.

As we see more expense and crimes committed by those who have no Legal right to be in our country the silent majority of Americans are fed up with the failing bureaucracy we know as Washington.

I believe America has had its voice heard given the fact that the last attempt to pass an immigration bill with an amnesty clause failed.

Politicians know that if they vote for any bill that allows amnesty this will be used against them in future elections. Especially when Americans are being killed by drunk illegal aliens, and especially when children are being raped by some illegal aliens.

WE will not ALLOW our laws or OUR citizens to be hurt by those who do not obey OUR laws. There is even talk of reestablishing tariffs and modifying NAFTA. Its about time....

It is a divisive issue but not as divisive as you think. 86% of people support enforcing US immigration laws. That is a clear majority. A small lunatic fringe keeps pushing amnesty but the veast majority of people of all parties oppose it. It is actually an issue that is bringing most of the country together and driving a wedge between it and a tiny minority finge. Poll after poll tells how democrats and republicans feel. Militarize the border, enforce work laws, establish a national ID, prosecute violators, and empower state and local authorities to enforce Immigration laws.

I am afraid you are mistaken. Amnesty for illegal immigrants has actually brought Americans together, over 85%, which is huge.

Iraq, is no more than a 50:50 split which is not bad, if you consider the massive amount of negative propaganda, it is like 24/7/365 on the news, negative non-stop. When was the last time you heard positive news about the war on radical islamics on the 6:00 news? Look it up, not since 2003, no wonder we are split on the issue.

it is a danger of extra advantageous scope, incredibly. there are literally hundreds of unlawful immigrants, no longer almost maximum of terrorists. Terrorists have not controlled to kill almost as many people interior the final 40 years as automobilies be waiting to kill each and each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, nor almost as many as different people be waiting to homicide in a three hundred and sixty 5 days. That illegals additionally be waiting to break the terrorist's extremely meager physique count variety isn't spectacular. Any super human inhabitants incorporates an excellent variety of human deaths, a number of them intentional.

One of the characteristics of being American is our ability of free thoguht. We can not be divided by a political issue. It is what we are made of. Besides, beyond this site, I don't see that much talk on this subject. Actually, this is one of the reason why I am here. There are very little political debate outside. I know this site can be infantile, but it's better than the rest of the political section.

This is an issue many people feel passionate about. Its become a "what side are you on" thing and that is wrong.

I must admit though, I don't like certain ppl that immigrate here and disrespect this country and ignore the laws.

The ironic thing: I'm Mexican AMERICAN and I often get thrown into the "mix" just because of my ethnic looks. That sucks!

The issues, and the policies of this country has driven such a hole in the belief I used to have in them, Right vs Wrong, Good vs Evil, Follow all the laws of the land one is in Or follow none of them... etc... That I have seriously been looking at secluded Islands for sale. It doesn't even matter what country those islands may be in or are close to. At least they are away from the BS.

edit: You are welcome to join me anytime DT. You say when, and your wishes will come true.

Maybe you should be telling this to the illegal aliens who march around with Mexican flags demanding more rights than Americans and you wonder why they divided our country that Mexican flag rammed down our throats will continue to divide our country. I'd like to ask the girl who says she is Mexican AMERICAN where does that say that on your birth certificate or drivers license you are either an American or a Latino there is no such thing as a Mexican American.

We are not telling anyone who doesn't belong to leave.

Its really no different then if you have a nice home and decide to have a small party. You invite a few people over and some people show up who you did not invite, who eat all of your food, and expect you to pay for things for their family. You would ask them to leave - if they didn't then you would expect the police to remove them.

Illegals were never invited by us (although I will admit that a few companies and our weak politicians have invited them for their own selfish reasons), are not wanted here by the vast majority of taxpayers and we want them to leave.

The division is not that large. When you remove the employers of illegals, the big corporations who benefit by lower overall wages for all citizens, the illegals themselves and the family members of illegals pretty much anyone with a brain wants them gone.
