It's like a body language signal.. does it signal nervousness or discomfort, or can it be a good thing?

Maybe his neck hurts. Also he might be uncomfortable and not know what to do with his hands.

Well, the surest way to turn off a guy is to start reading things into his every movement and action. I suffer from migraines and tension headaches. When I put my hand on the back of my head and rub my neck, I am doing so because it helps relieve the pain in my neck that such a headache causes. When I see others doing it, I assume they must have a headache too because those of us who suffer these frequently recognize those who deal with the same thing. I wouldn't make too much out of this.

It depends. It signals many things. The thought that comes to mind is "oh boy, this is a tough one".

I am thinking that the body language means a deeper thought is in order.

Could be his head itches and his neck is sore... LOL! Seriously you're overthinking things- forget about the body language and listen to what he's saying.

Offer to rub his neck, next time.

Maybe it means he's thinking, "Wow, this girl is looking at me really weird. I don't think she's actually listening to anything I'm saying."

I agree with the person who said to stop over-analyzing the body language and pay more attention to what's being said. Guys don't tend to play the whole silent body language game near as much as we girls do. They're more likely to just say what they want you to hear.

Usually, when someone does that, it means that he is unsure or uncomfortable about something. Or, simply, he's shy. Sometimes, it doesn't mean anything to the person who does it. Its just their normal function. Like example: I crack my neck when I'm around people all the time. Usually, I just do it just to do it. Doesn't mean my neck needs a relief. You'll never know...

Could be nervousness.

I'll see guys do that sometimes when they are looking at a car or something and can't figure out what's wrong with it. It's as if to say "Well, you've got me...I don't know what the heck is wrong with it".

Could just be that their neck hurts.

I would say a sore neck, or awkwardness, that's all I can really think of. I mean that like if he doesn't exactly know what to say or do, or he's in an unfamiliar situation...this does not have to be bad however.

Well putting his hand on to the back of his neck.... Well if it is to a girl, themn maybe it's because he is pretty intrested in her and wants to impres her but feels shy to approach u..... And moreover he would like to make a nice scene out there....

It could be to take his mind off of something or to focus on something without getting distracted. If done for long or repeatedly, it could mean that his neck aches and he might need medical attention.
