In the past Christians used black men as slaves, and to no suprise....none other than thier precious bible told them they were entitled to enslave others (back then, the poor black men were victimized).

In the present, slavery is cleary unacceptable...and even Christians can't justify it. Somehow Christians try to ignore their dirty past...they say, "We Christians are not the same as those Christians back then...blah blah blah...."...ok, we'll let them slip...but wait!

Now a days, Christians are condemning homosexuals...and how do they justify their judgemental minds?....TADA! Through their precious "bible" yet again!

Maybe a hundred or so years from now when someone asks them why they were so judgemental against homosexuals they'll say, "Well, we're not like those Christians back then"

I advise you Christians to start editing(something you're really good at) the "homosexuals will be called least in heaven" part before it gets out of hand!

Using logic to talk to illogical people is really difficult indeed

Well, for starters the Bible (and as that is the title of a book it is proper to capitalize it, even if you don't like it - sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine...) does not tell Christians that they are "entitled to enslave others." And nowhere does it say "homosexuals will be called least in heaven."

During slavery (at least, slavery in the Americas - slavery in Africa and Asia and in Europe would be another matter) pretty much all people of western European descent called themselves "Christians." Since it is not condoned in the Bible, it doesn't follow that slavery was a "Christian" thing to do any more than it was a male thing to do - after all, all the slave owners were male, weren't they?

Am I as a Christian today responsible for the acts of all Christians through history? No. I am only responsible for my own actions, as are you.

All you hear about in the news are the nasty type of "Christians" who have missed out on the Christian ideas of "love your neighbor as yourself" and "let the one without sin cast the first stone." These people are blindly zeroed in on sinful behavior in other people (yes, the Bible clearly describes homosexuality as wrong) and trying to do God's job, which is to deal with people on their sin. According to the Bible, our job as Christians is to pray for people who do wrong and love them anyway, not to condemn them.

speaking as a black man, I know what the Bible says about slavery and you are quite far off. there was slavery, which was frowned upon by God and by man, and there was the slave practice, which was like a business.

in slave practice, a man sold himself to a master to pay off a debt he had or because he was poor and needed a job. he was owned by the master until seven years were up, or until the year of jubilee. the slave could choose whether to stay a slave after his time was served. a slave could not be abused by his master and wasn't killed, but rather dealt with by a master, and whips were not common practice, do to Israels 400 in Egypt.

and as for homosexuality, there's something else you need to understand. there is a difference between a biological inclination, and a lifestyle. a biological inclination to the same gender would simply be an inconvenience, while choosing to have homosexual relationships is strictly sinful, no questions asked. whether someone is naturally gay or not, they still have control over what they do, believe and support.

it's not a case of discrimination do to natural orientation, but to refusal to adhere to God's plan. I assure you, there'd be a lot less hype if they didn't try to make it law. any sin that comes to be made law is fought, end of story.

nice point but slavery was like... ok so it's the 2nd oldest profession. hehe.. er.. Racism against blacks is SOO tied up with the slavery history. "Did whites enslave/justify enslaving blacks because of racism or did whites develop racism because they used blacks as slaves?"

I think that people who had slaves justified it by not even considering the slaves as people, as human beings. They were, literally, just property to them.

I haven't really read the Bible (just know the stories) and I know lots of people had servants and slaves but it certainly wasn't OK for the Egyptians to enslave the Hebrews. Interesting!

It's not just nowadays that homosexuals are being condemned, and it's not just Christians doing the condemning.

But I really don't think it resembles "old-time" racism (I don't know when you're talking about.. I'll just assume it's slavery time?) because of that dehumanizing thing I talked about. "Now a days", are gays and lesbians dehumanized to this point? I think that homosexuals are born that way, just like black people are born black. However, most of the people who condemn them are VERY unlikely to think this way, right?

And please understand the difference between Christians and nominal Christians.

Great question.

Same thing happened with Sabbath rule.

Once something is commonly accepted, no bible, no god and nothing can stop it from becoming "valid".

As we progress morally with time, bible and god looks more and more barbaric and irrelevant.

And soon after some 50 years, they'll say that god has changed some rules so homosexuality is all good now.

You know, god works in people's ways, not mysterious ways.

Homosexuality is condemned 2 times in the entire Bible - once in the OT and once in the NT. Pride and arrogance are condemned 1000+ times. Which one do they stand on street corners lambasting?

Frankly, it's gotten so far out of hand that I'm quite disgusted with most Christians, of late. Especially because the ones that preach the most for tolerance and that 'love thy neighbour' stuff are the ones who are the first to jump up and judge and hate.

On a small tangeant, wouldn't it be quite hilarious if the second coming of Jesus was gay?

I'm pretty sure without Abraham Lincoln, some Christians would still be using blacks as slaves because it says so in the bible...

Slavery, was forcing people do leave their family's, being sold , killed and treated like animals, and then you are going to say being gay is the same thing, you are out of your mind ....being a homosexual...were you forced to bend over or have sex with the same sex, and then try to get rights to be treated like it's OK to recruit small immature kids into your sicko lifestyle....how does that come any where close to being a slave.....TELL US......!!!!!!!!!!

Black people were not committing terrible sins just because they were of different skin pigmentation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any person of a different race or nationality. It doesn't matter if you are black, white, mexican, Japanese, German, Italian, Russian, Jewish, and all the other different nationalites. The people in the past that enslaved other people were terribly wrong. I hope society never repeats these horrible acts. You can not compare homosexuals with slaves. Homosexuality is an indecent, immoral, unnatural, gross, perverse and sinful lifestyle. There I said it.

There is bigotry everywhere. If it isn't a sin, it ought to be.
