I live in an expensive city on the east coast - and I knew that homemade invitations were a safe way to go financially. I was able to send 100 invitations out for less than $100.00
I went to the local papier store (or is it papery?) Anyway and bought colored stock about 4" x 6" and printed the wording in table format using Word so I could get 4 invitations per printout. I found a nice parchment paper that was very inexpensive and it had the vintage look I was trying to accomplish. I glued (with a glue stick - DON'T use a bottle - it will form bubbles)to the stock. I then bought a nice ribbon to tie around the invitations and rsvp returns. The only negative experience I can say about it was that it was very time consuming with all the steps in the process, but it was way worth the effort knowing that my heart was poured into a notice for a very special day.

Get the wording and format correct!!
I see the same mistake over and over again when Brides and Grooms make their own wedding invitations.
The wording is incorrect . . they do not use their parents or their own proper/complete names . . the ceremony or reception site has the wrong address . . they spell the name of the ceremony or reception site wrong . . they do not put the year . . they do not word the time correctly. . they abbreviate the state . . and they add the zip code (a zip code goes not go on a wedding invitaiton).
Crane's (the great wedding stationery company) makes it very easy for you . . just go to Crane's Wedding Blue Book on line. This web site will show you how to do it the right way!
Your wedding invitation sets the tone for your wedding . . and do you really want your guests to get the impression you don't know what you are doing if something on your wedding invitation is misspelled? Your wedding invitation should NOT look "homemade."
Also . . Bridal registry information or any type of references about gifts do NOT belong on or with a wedding invitation (inappropriate).

I made my own, using a box set from Walmart. The box came with 50 blank invites, envelopes, response cards, and response card envelopes. The invitations themselves had a pattern around the edges of raised flowers (there were several options, ranging from totally plain to really detailed) and the centers were totally blank.
The instruction sheet in the box lists a website to use for design help, but I ended up doing my own thing with them anyway. I used my own printer at home to print them all.
I also purchased a few spools of ribbon, and placed bows at the top of each invite.
They're obviously not as perfect and fancy and formal as if I would have spend a few hundred on having a company do them, but I think they turned out quite nice.
It was like... $15 for the box, and I needed 2 boxes. There were cheaper ones and more expensive ones, depending on what you like and the style of your wedding.

I say try to search on the Internet for wedding invitation wording or get some wedding invitation books and see what they have. That's where I got my idea from was the wedding books to copy some of what they have with some of my stuff added to it. I'm doing my own just like I just did our engagement invitations. I followed words on the Internet and in the books. Good Luck.

If you have a computer and printer or know someone with one. get a program such as a print shop and decorate the templates you can even add your own pictures on to the invitations if you don't have a camera take a picture and negatives to Walgreen's or Walmart and have them put your picture on a CD and then open it into the program. other things after the invitation is done put some ribbon or fabric on it something that will stand out and compliments you and your soon to be spouse.

Home-made wedding invites are great and will allow you to add your own personal touch. While they are a great idea that is one more thing to throw onto a laundry list of other things you'll need to get done. If you think you can do it, go for it!! If not I would definitely recommend getting a professional.

Get the American Greeting Cards software. You can make your own and its great for later when you need a birthday, or any other occasion card. Buy card stock, have a good laser printer and become creative. Some people are using hole punchers and threading ribbon through the holes as an idea.

If you can go to American Greetings.com. They have a selection of create and print. Keep in mind you have to pay for the service. However, you may see some free ones. You can also get the Hallmark card studio disc. They are available at those such as K-mart, Target, and Wal Mart.

I totally got you covered on this one!
Go to rexcraft.com pick out an invitation you like have them send you a free sample then take it to micheals and get the materials you need to make it! I got a sample and took it to office depot and they made them for me for 19.99 just make sure you write in your info instead of the info given they send you generic names! Good Luck!!
