I have been doing genealogy searches on my father for over 3 yrs & managed to find one half sister in St.Louis,Mo.
Her mom refuses to talk about our father & no one else will say anything online or any of the genealogy sites with our surname.
It is like our family tree just went to firewood!
Lots of Pooles out there but none answer our call or claim any ties with us.
I found out our father died on Sept.12,1996 in Galveston,Texas, but is buried in Millwee Cemetary,in Seviere Co.Arkansas.
No brothers, sisters, children or wives will answer our call.
His name was Jerry M.(Milford or Medford)Poole.Said he was born in Mirando City,Texas in late 20's or early 30's.
He had family in St.Louis,Mo. & Port Aransas,Texas.
We don't care about inheritances or any of that, just family ties!
Thanks for any help.

Hi jumpin,

I have to believe that Jerry Milford Poole and Jerry Medford Poole are two different people. The reason being that
I think that you have a lot of pieces of information that just don't fit together. I did see the death record in the Texas death records for the Jerry Milford Poole who is buried in Willwee Cemetery in Sevier County, Arkansas. Here is the problem I have with that information.

According to the cemetery records at the link below, this Jerry Milford Poole was born September 2, 1930. Also, there are alot of Pooles in this cemetery. If I was a betting woman I probably would conclude that the other Pooles in this cemetery are kin in some way and would research the connections of the Pooles in that cemetery.

I found in one of your previous postings online that your mother said that he was 37 when she met him in 1954 meaning that he would have to be born about 1917. If he was actually born in 1930, he would have been 24. There is usually an unmistakeable difference in the appearances of men that are 24 and men that are 37. I did find two birth records for Jerry Milford Poole in Harris County for two daughters born in the 1960's. The mothers maiden name was Pittman.

Now, in your birth record, your father is clearly identified as Jerry MEDFORD Poole. Since his name is on your birth certificate, it should list your fathers age at time of your birth and his birthplace. What does it say? Does it say that he was 38 or does it say that he was 25? What does it say for his birthplace? Also, have you gotten a copy of your parents marriage license? Many state marriage licenses, (not all) list the names of the bride and grooms parents.

I couldn't find any evidence of any Poole families in Webb county, texas in the 1920 or 1930 census (home of Mirando city) which makes this even more perplexing

If you would like to e-mail me through my profile with the information you have and your sources of the information, I would gladly help you to pursue this further. Using the information about these two names, i have found no evidence to suggest that Jerry Medford Poole and Jerry Milford Poole are one in the same.

I know that this is frustrating, but don't give up. The truth is out there! Blessings to you.

There is a possible discrepancy in your information. The social security death index does have Jerry T Poole who died on that date.. but not in Galveston. The last residence shown was in Georgia. Unless he was traveling when he died? The year of birth for that entry was 1938, which does not agree with what you show. It is VERY important to make sure you have the right year of birth. If he was born before 1930, he would be found in that census listing, which should indicate if there were siblings (at least older ones).
Since you do have a cemetery name, you need to contact them. I assume your birth record shows his name, so legally you have authority to get a copy of the death certificate, and learn who his parents were. You absolutely have to go for the cemetery first.. since if he died in another state, the certificate will be in that state, not where he is buried.
Once you have the names of the parents.. again.. they would be findable in the 1930 census, and that is a record you can check to see if they had other children.
When persons don't claim any ties.. it may be that is just the simple truth, that they are not related, and don't know anything to tell you. Thus, you have to work with documentation that you can find. I would also recheck whatever your source is for that date you have, since there is a conflict. You may have the wrong date to begin with.

write the cemetery and request their records on him. These should be free so it will only cost you a stamp. This might give you some help. Then you could get his birth and death certificate after that as you'd have the dates that you need. Try locating an obit thru the library where he was buried. This is probably $2. Those few documents should give you some leads.

Just remember, not everything you find online is the truth. You must document everything. There is a lot of bad research out there so be very careful. You probably won't get an answer about who submitted it. They may have requested to remain anonymous.

Good luck in your hunt

This is not a new problem in genealogy research.

The fact is, some people just do not care to renew old ties. Maybe they don't have an interest in family history, maybe there is some past matter which they do not care to re-visit, whatever the cause you cannot make them reply.

It is unfortunate, but that is how it is!

All you can do is continue to trace relatives and possibly write to those who seem most likely to be related to you.

You could also try writing to genealogy groups in the most likely cities, leaving your contact details in case anyone in future comes to them for help tracing the family.

Another possibility is writing letters to local newspapers (online or delivery) asking that your contact details be published in case a family member reads it.

(You might want to consider getting a post box address before doing this, I don't recommend giving your home address over the internet or in print!.)

While your half sister's mother does not wish to talk about your father, there may be other relatives who do, but you have not managed to contact them. Perhaps they are that older generation who do not necessarily have computers or internet access, so you have to think about how to maybe let them know you are looking!

At worst you may get some replies which enable you to cross a few non-relatives off the list!

Good luck and best wishes :-)

Tracing family origins is an exciting journey; but, the journey can be frustrating, especially when brothers, sisters, wives, children, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and others who may have family information are not willing to "give it up".

Your family seems to have a history in St. Louis. Check property records, birth and death records, school records, and newspaper archives in St. Louis. This will probably require you to spend some money and time in St. Louis; but, if you are serious about finding family members, this is something you will have to do. You may have to go to Texas and Arkansas also.

The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, more commonly known as Mormons, has one of the most extensive geneological libraries in the world, available to anyone, whether Mormon, Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist, or Catholic.

Their main source is located in Salt Lake City, Utah; but, there are Metropolitan cities such as St. Louis, Missouri, Los Angeles, California, New York City, NY, Washington, DC, that have offices you can contact to access records.

I am sorry for your loss. You might try visiting the courthouses on those areas, or doing an online search for public records. Also, the Latter Day Saints keep lots of genealogical records, as well as maybe the Salvation Army being able to help find lost family members. Maybe he hurt a lot of people for them not to want to talk about him. Good luck in your search!
