Good question. I don't necessarily cry because people die. I cry when people die who rejected Jesus. I celebrate when people die who accepted Jesus. I also cry for those who reject him while they are still alive. I celebrate when they choose to accept him.

Christians are the same as anybody else, they cry not only because they will miss the person gone, but also because there are a lot of things that they want to say or do with the person that they can't do anymore, now that the persons unable to move. I guess, your asking this because, you think they don't really believe in heaven, if they cry for a dead person.
But it's not just about religion, though this may sound cheesy, people long for someone that is gone and their grief is not about the person dead but actually themselves being left behind. When they cry, they believe that the person is in a happier place, but they still cry becuase they can't do the things that they use to do before. Therefore, though it may seem as if they are crying for the dead, and they themselves feel that way, it MAY actually be an unconscious desire to have the same pleasure of having the person around.
I hope you understood what I meant. I tend to get circuitous in my talk often times.

Right now my father is dying of Metastatic Prostate Cancer and we don't know when he will die. It can be tonight or in 2 days or 2 months. He is saved and I know I will see him when the Lord comes again. He is a very good Christian man and has asked the Lord into his heart as have my mother and I so we know we will see him, but crying is an emotional response to what we know will happen even though we know death is a temporary state and he will only be asleep until the Lord comes. As you can tell I'm an Adventist. That's what we believe. I know I'll cry again at his death and at the memorial in fact I'll probably just start bawling, even though in my heart and mind I know it is just a temporary state of unconsciousness.
My brother was up from California this last weekend to visit my father and all of us and when he left today, even though I knew I was going to see him again eventually I cried. For 2 reasons I love my brother dearly and also I know that the next time I may see him will be at my father's memorial and that thought just made me cry a little harder.
When Christians say that they will miss them they're telling the truth.

I am a Christian. I cry when people die. It is a human emotion. I love the person and regardless of weather or not they are a Christian I still cry. The difference is that when a believer dies I know I will see them again...though I don't know when and it feels so final even when I know its not. When a non-Christian passes, I feel hopeless, and I feel like I should have done more to show them the way....the feeling of loss i feel does seem to last longer in this case. Also i think it really is a selfish thing....I cry for myself and my loss when someone i love dies.....
I do cry when someone moves. Again if I love that someone I am crying for my loss...though it is a bit different as when someone moves i have this nifty thing called internet...and a cell phone....not to mention plain old mail to keep in contact...when someone dies Christian or non-christian I can't "keep in contact" with them at all.

Why wouldn't someone cry? Human nature it is called, to be humane, we are not made out of a rock! Hope that answers your question, and to the ignorant ones that believe that we will never meet again, according to what we have done here on earth, we do have a great reward waiting for us when we leave home to heaven. So I make sure everyday, that my flesh dies more to be more Christ like to make it into heaven. A mind of Christ will get me into heaven. The love of God is so real, why would I ever doubt there is a King above all!!!

You said all Christians that's negative not all. We have feelings and have every right to miss those who pass. The bible does not say that Christians shouldn't cry. When people cry their showing their love for that person a person who was ones in their life a person who is going to be missed terribly. Why wouldn't we cry? We are full of emotions and can't do nothing about that. God made me with compassion love and emotion, If people cry their showing their love for that person what they meant to them. There are different types of feelings and of course the feeling of some one moving can't compare to that of one who passed on. You know that in some time you'll end up seeing that person again unlike the one who died although some day we will but not with that power we have here on earth with the decision to make that attempt. so the feeling is different if you ask me. If you can't settle for "I will miss them" I'm sorry if I can't come up with some thing better because I know I will until I go to meet with them again with my lord Jesus Christ.

Ok, bud, you want it striaght??? I'll give it straight...... Why do YOU cry, or do you..... Do YOU have emotions ?? hmm, I am just wondering..... *Shrug*.... anyway, Christians are NOT afraid , we do NOT know for sure who is going to heaven, we have the HOPE in Jesus our loved ones and us will, and we do HOPE we will see them in heaven..... We cry because we do miss them when they die.... What is your sadistic point in all this ?? what do you expect people to do, Christian or otherwise, when they loose someone who was important to them and loved ?? smile and go to work ?? You I am sure probably do that...... however, people with real emotions DON'T...... We mourn and cry and all that stuff you seem to not have a grasp on....... Why would you or anyone assume, we are afraid to admit anything?? sounds to me as if you and a few others, who have answered you, are the ones who are soooooo very afraid........ this line of questions shows only your ignorance and ego... You have NO concept of human emotion if this is the way you look at death........ go in peace...... God bless

I haven't read your first question. But I would like to answer this one...why do Christians or anyone else cry when someone dies? Because we are grieving! We won't see them again in this life...whether a person is Christian, Atheist, Muslim, or any other religion. Regardless of our personal beliefs about the after life... The reason we cry is the same...Grief. Sorrow. Sadness. So we cry...don't you? We are human, so we cry!

-rolls eyes- Oh for pete's sake! Give me a break!
How could you be asking quesitons like this? I'm an atheist, and it's perfectly okay to be curious, but do you have to be so rude about it?
Why are you asking these questions? It's obvious you already have an opinion of these people and will never accept an answer no matter how good it is. Southernmale42, for example, had a really good answer. But of course you just want to diss these people, don't you?
Grow up and get a life.

Sure, if they are close and mean a lot to me I feel sad and sometimes cry. However, there are e mails, phones and letters to keep in touch. Once, someone dies, there are no forms of communication to speak to them, unless you believe in Seances, which, according to the Bible, are not works of God but witches. So, the points you're trying to make are not really legitimate. You can't compare apples to oranges. But, thanks for the question and have a great day!
