Skunks are actually known to get along with cats. They are often seen feeding side by side at cat food bowls. Dogs will commonly get sprayed by skunks as they chase after them and threaten or corner them. Skunks really don't need to "attack" anything, they spray and then run, this is their best defence...no reason for them to make physical contact. Most animals will avoid attacking unless absolutely necessary. Also, people saying that skunks attack people are absolutely wrong..yes someone may get sprayed by a skunk if threatening them..but they do not go around attacking people unless they were ill or rabid.

If your cat was attacked by a skunk or any wild animal you have to consider rabies. I hope your animals are up to date on their shots if they are outdoors a lot. My cat was attacked by a fox and was pretty beat up.

They will often ignore intruders even in close proximity unless disturbed.
Skunks rarely attack unless provoked,cornered or defending their young.
Most animals quickly learn to recognize and avoid skunks.
