I'm considering my financial options for college and, wanting to keep my options open, feel obligated to at least examine what ROTC has to offer. What I want to know is what business majors, business being the career path I plan on following post-service, does ROTC offer. I must also admit that I don't fancy the idea of being shot at constantly so if you have any advice on what career to pursue that would be relatively safe, when compared to other military occupations, that would be helpful as well

ROTC doesn't dictate what major you choose for your program, it's an additional course you take in order to qualify for the financial aid. In return for that you owe 4 years to the Army or Air Force when you graduate. They pay tuition and some money towards books, but not housing or food.

Here in NY the ROTC money essentially takes the place of money you are qualified for through state TAPS aid, so it's not necessary to be in ROTC to get the same amount of $$.
My son wanted to be an Army officer when he graduates so he entered the ROTC program anyway, but there was no financial difference to us for the cost of his college.

well, for Army at least, you have no say in what community you get into after Commissioning. Navy you don't find out what Designator until just before you graduate.

No such thing as a relatively 'safe' community.. in any branch. Supply officers are getting shot at too.

"It" doesn't work like that...there is no "Special Forces" as a major in college. You can do whatever you want in school, but there are majors in school that will certainly be better for career enhancement and life after the Army.
