Ooo, that first answer was not nice.
I think most of us know each other well enough to be able to tell if the question is posted in jest or anger or sarcasm. The angrier or more sarcastic they are, the worse they tend to spell and use proper punctuation. Plus, the angry questions are often accompanied by lengthy diatribes which are designed to lecture, not inquire.
I like our penguin's questions. She is often kidding and she quacks me up. I like your questions because I can fee a sincere look on your face when I read them.
I am more often than not sincere in my questions. I don't write funny ones, but I like to respond to them! But to address your question, since we can't always discern the writer's intent with a given question, unless it is clearly angry or clearly silly, I give them the benefit of the doubt and answer sincerely .

Readers some times can't distinguish between an insult, curiosity or a desire to learn from others, because we can't see each other faces or hear each other's tone of voice!
Often the questions are tongue-in-cheek.
Let's just have fun.

This is a good question! sometimes I can tell if they were laughing when they wrote it, and other times I can tell that they were serious just by the way it was written. Anger is quite hard to tell, but the insults are very easy to distinguish. think about it if I said to you {if you cant see it in a phrase then you need to go back to school} that would not be anger ! The anger may be { WHAT DO YOU THINK! READ IT !!!} So this is my way of telling the 2 apart in one version anyway. does this help you any ?

Yes, you can tell by the way something is written if the author was curious, angry, or insulting. The way a sentence is phrased helps as well. Not forgetting to mention that the author may tip the reader off to their true motives in the asking of the question.

Yeah, it happens to me. I asked an honest question the other day and got a million responses insulting me.
It's not that difficult to do, I have no problem telling those things usually, the problem is you just have to actually read the question. Most people don't put thought into what they're reading and take it as they first interpret it, which is often wrong.

Rae, some people are able to get their inner feelings across and others are unabel to at all. A lot of folks have a hard time with expressive language and, seem to be unable to express themselves in the right tone, in writing. So, I guess I'd have to say that it depends on the person doing the asking.

Many times yes I can.
I used to have a defect where after reading about 20 provoking questions and seeing hundreds of Christ bashing answers I would be guarded in my answers. Then it came to me that if it weren't for Jesus I would never had spent two seconds in this place. It is not about me anyway. I am just here to answer questions. I still get duped on occasion.

Well, most have a predetermined answer in mind and so, probably insulting. I personally like the questions related to logic in which the poster shows that he/she has little or no logic. Quite funny.
Many are "baiting" questions which are posted just to belittle the answerers.
Yes, I understand.

Yes i generally can pick up on cynical statements, as well as sly insults which are hidden in an off handed question(I'm guilty of this). and for the most part i can tell when someone is sincere or just clueless.

There have been questions that I've re-read a 2nd or 3rd time before I coudl work that one out.
The odd occassion I've had to check their other questions/answers to see what rings their bell.
I rarely just jump to conclusions, and have been critized for giving people the benifit of the doubt.
