No. The spirit is a creation of man and man's unwillingness to accept mortality.
Want to know what happens when you die? Go sit in your car with the engine running. Now turn the key.

I believe it is a matter of dimensions. We are trapped in a 3 dimensional world. It appears that spirit beings have the ability (if God permits) to leave that world and come into this one.
The bible explains that there were demonic beings that left their first estate (dimension) and took wives, producing offspring. This was the reason for the flood, and these demonic being are currently bound in chains until the end of this world.
Jude 1:6
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Even science has had to recently admit that there may be many more dimensions than they originally thought. In reality, they don't know anything, and God will eventually show their wisdom to be foolishness.
Romans 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
So, basically it boils down to dimensions. Ours is made up of matter. The others, who knows.
1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

There seems to be a separation between the body and the Spirit. Spirit is present on this level but it always gets identified with the body. Awareness is more the experience of Spirit. Life and spirit have also been separated, but examine the core, the base, the essence of the Life in you and you will see a Oneness of Life not the separation of Life.

The physical body still represents "energy" even after death.
Just ask the maggots feasting on the corpse.
I'm thinking it's kinda like a battery. What is a dead battery?

Perhaps.
Physics also teaches that energy can be converted into a different form.
