Ok, Toys R Us just ripped you off. Gift reciepts do carry entire purchase info on the item (where, when, how much). As for those saying to contact the BBB, here is a little dose of truth. The BBB cannot do anything to them. They can put an unsatisfactory report about TRU on their website, but that is all. They cannot force a store to do the consumer's bidding. My advice: you should have fought tooth and nail and told them that they were full of crap about the price and demand the full price paid.

I worked at toys r us during the 2005 holiday season while there is no price written on the gift receipt when the barcode is scanned into the computer it comes up with the date time price an even how u paid for the item an what register an sale assoicate it was. so even with a gift receipt u should have gotten full price for ur item...I would ask ur falther 2 see the slaes recepit her got an then take that back 2 the store an tell them that was the price he paid for it an that is the price u want credited to ur gift card or u are going to the BBB an gonna report them

I think they are lying if they say that the gift receipt doesn't show what you paid for the item. I worked at Wal-Mart, and their gift receipts have a bar code that lets you view the entire receipt of whatever the person bought, and how much each item cost, not just the gift item. I'd bet that Toys R US's work the same way. They should totally be reported to the Better Business Bureau.
If your dad bought it, does he have the original receipt?

Wait - why on earth would the gift receipt show what you paid for it? Isn't that the whole purpose of a gift receipt? Don't they just boop the bar code and get what you paid for it?
They do have a crappy return policy. I would stick with walmart. You can return anything there without a receipt.

I would report them! If you have a gift receipt then you should have gotten back all the money that you paid for the item. I find it very disturbing and will not go to Toys r' us....

With each gift receipt, there would be a code of some sort to track down the date and place of purchase, right? Call the better business bureau. They will send you papers to fill out and return. Even if the money lost was a few dollars, it can be investigated. And no place of business wants a black mark ! Good luck!

Yes, their computer system should easily know the purchase price for a company that large by either scanning a receipt or your card.
Also TRU has been in financial trouble the past couple years, I think last even closed lots of stores.

Oh, usually on the gift receipts there are barcodes, so they can check their system and return your gift full price...But I guess that's not how they do it. Well, I'm really sorry..

That is wrong...
can't they just scan the receipt and see how much you paid for it?
Boycott gift receipts in general!
