My father in law says that we should have dinner at 4:30-5, well i have 5 kids who are all in different sports that play on differnet nights or at different times, and my husband works nights so he gets up at about 6-8 so our dinner times vary depending on the sports being played, and the other stuff we have scheduled, and he constantly ragging me about eating late, the kids go to bed between 8 and 9, so we always have dinner before that time, but he thinks we should stay on a strict schedule and that schedule should be set by him, so what do you think should we be having dinner at the time he says fit, or should we have it at the time we can get around to it?

no we dont live with him, he just always has his nose where it dont belong, and he has to be 100% correct at all times, and i have taken the advice and nodded my head and said thanks for the advice i may put it to use, but he pushes it and constantly pounds it down my throat, and tells me how perfectly he did everything when he had the kids living there about 5-6 years ago, when he works one day a week, and does nothing else the other 6 days, and at that time non of the kids played sports, and non of them were in scouting, and one was in elementary school, and one was in preschool, the other was home all day, and i wasnt with my husband at tat time, so my two kids werent around, so he had it much easier back then and now stuff has changed but its not to his likings, so he is trying to make me change and do as he wants we used to live 2 miles away then we moved 45 miles away and he is still always in my ear B*&$%ING that i am not doing it right!!

I don't under stand why old people like eating so early.
I think the important thing is to try to eat as a family...

Also, if your kids are snacking to hold them over before dinner, then should probably eat earlier. If they're fine, plus you and your husband agree that there is no problem, than your father in-law has no standing.

I do think that 8-9 is to late but 430 -5? I would shoot for somewhere in the middle say 530 -630.

He can think whatever he wants. Just smile, nod and keep the schedule YOU want to keep.

You are asking how to make him stop. He's not going to stop.
My ex mum in law still criticizes, and her grandson is 23! So your father-in-law is not going to stop.

A routine is good for kids, hit a consistent time if you can, whatever works for your family.
