like the phrase: "God bless you" after someone sneezes, it is an expression; some view this as using the name of the LORD in vain; others seem to have no problem with the useage of some of these terms; it's a bid of a "gray area" if you will, imho, but nevertheless to be on the safe side, it's never pleasant to hear someone say, especially a little child, something like "OMG".

Lord have mercy is not swearing.
When something bad is happening and a person says Lord have mercy, they are praying to God to take it into his hands and do something because they don't know what to do.

Usually in response to an outrageous situation when someone may need forgiveness from God. Thus "Lord Have Mercy"

I usually see it as an extention of the phrase "Lord have mercy on me, a sinner". I tend to mutter the first part when a very attractive lady walks past and I think dirty lustful thoughts of fun and lustfulness. I don't see it as cursing, though...just my two cents.

Not if it is in the context of pray it isn't cursing. We say it at Mass. I say it 7 times daily during my Holy Office, except I say it in Latin.

Jesus is the Lord of Mercy.

If it is said outside the context of prayer, then it is taking the Lord's name in vain which is a sin.

In His Love,
J.

A good question. I find it difficult to sort out if it has any substance outside prayer. Otherwise it could be a superstitious act.
