None of them were meant to take literally.
The Bible was a tool, a lesson book. It has evolved to what it is now, but the NT is nothing but a bunch of letters.
The Epic of Gilgamesh was written 1500 years before Hebrews even appeared in history and it has the first flood story which will be followed with Genesis and with the Greeks flood story. We Norse are a blood thirsty lot, our flood was in blood. Nope not kidding.
Faith comes down to what feels right to you. My blood called and I answered. I feel more at piece and centered since coming to Heathenism then I have in my entire life. I have great contacts that have helped me even more. I don't care about the "mythology" I care about the worldview, the culture, and what it IS, not what it SAYS.

While myths are not necessarily meant to be taken literally, the Norse myths and gods and goddesses are a helluva lot more real than the Xian ones. I can feel Thor and Odin and the other Norse gods and goddesses when I talk to them. That's more than I could ever say for the Abrahamic god.

Anyone with a brain treats the Christian, Greek, Nordic, Egyptian, African, Amerind, etc... myths as metaphors for actual occurrences in local histories.
The more ignorant and arrogant treat their myths as fact for the world.
As for believability... well... The Aesir and Vanir have been much better to me and mine than the Christian God ever was.
But this is because I am their man. I have no blood connection to the Christian God... nowhere in my genealogy is there one of his covenanted people. The Aesir are my literal physical kin, my ancestors by blood and spirit.

Greek myths are much more human - and generally more beautiful. I've never thought of it, but the Grimm fairy tales do have a sort of biblical tone. Interesting.

NICEGUY,
You mean Utnapishtim, don't you. That is from Gilgamesh. Thousands of years before Christ. And apparently before God (if the earth is only 6000 according to Him)

Thumbs up for you Rob.........
Lest we not forget also that our gods/goddesses are more human than some may realize, they have almost the same traits as us...they are our Elder kin after all...they have taken human form and walked amongst us for one reason or another. IMO, one of the most interesting things is that they are mortal, they know they are going to die...most, not all...they know the place it is going to happen, they cannot stop it, Odin tries his best to delay it, but even the wisest of gods knows it is inevitable.
It is that mortality aspect and the fact we can relate to them better instead of this 'get on your knees and pray' type of god. Our gods want us to fend for ourselves, it was partially due to the climate they lived in for sure, but you never saw a Norseman kneeling before a statue of Thor asking to "help him through" difficult times, he may have asked for help but you can damm well bet he had to suck it up and make it happen as opposeed to waiting for a "miracle"
