I hear people saying that XFCE is not as feature full as gnome, will I not be able to use certain applications or install things like Adobe Flash player and the synaptic package manager ?.

Thanks.

You can install GNOME programs just fine. The problem stems from the fact that running GNOME programs requires more resources. But you can run GNOME programs as long as the libraries are downloaded (which is done automatically). I run GNOME programs all the time on KDE, so I know it does not necessarily require you to have GNOME running.

You can still do those things. It's just that xfce uses more lightweight libraries than gnome or kde, but if you use other programs that use the more-feature rich libraries then you're going to have a lot of the same performance issues as you would with kde or gnome.

You should be able to run all of these, Gnome is IMHO the best
