They can. Dogs and cats can have reactions to their vaccinations, just like people do. If it persists, call the vet, just like you would call the doctor if your child were having a bad reaction to their vaccinations.

No, if there is a reaction which is very rare you will sometimes see vomiting or lethargy but no diarrhea.

If the kitten is having lose stools, take a fecal sample to the vet and they can check it for parasites since the majority of kittens do have some form. Also switching foods too quickly can often cause an upset stomach, this should be done over a course of a week.

Normally this is not an adverse reaction experienced from a vaccine. One really needs to know the type of vaccine that was administered. If it was a modified live vaccine or a vaccine with live genetically modified organisms then it is entirely possible it could get diarrhea. If it was an inactivated vaccine, I would not expect much of anything.

However, any vaccine that causes the body temperature to rise (systemic inflammatory response) could also cause this symptom.

my vet told me that the vaccinations (especially the rabies vaccination) can cause a spike in body temperature; a fever which may cause the kitten to be sleepy. However, my vet also told me that if the kitten had any serious adverse effects from the shot (including vomiting and/or diarrhea) then I should take the kitten back to the vet ASAP

Yes, they can. They can sometimes even cause a bloody stool. Just because they have this reaction once does not mean they will have it a second time but you should let your vet know so they are aware.

In most cases vaccines give animals slight fever and swelling in shot site, witch in case will give them diarrhea. But this will resole itself in a few days when the fever reduces..

Those vaccines should not cause diarrhoae in normal cases. Have you been feeding your kittens milk? You should not!
