OK, this may sound weird, but - look at your cat's hind end. Does it look like two dots [ : colon ] on top of each other, or a dot and a dash [ ; semicolon ] ?
Colons are girls, semicolons are boys.
Here's your spelling list:
kitten - juvenile cat
female - girl
male - boy
testicles - balls
