Yes. Men are to be the protectors and providers, women are to be the nurturing aspect. There's so much more to it, though. Read the Bible for more insight.
And don't get all feminazi on me, either...

Yes! Yes! Yes!,
Well, at least, in the minds of men. You see, men wrote all the religious books for whatever religion you can name. These men were not afraid to indulge in an aggrandized description of the male ability. They made a very common mistake found in writing, namely, the indulgence of the fantasy of self grandeur.
What almost all of them did not know is that back in about 950 BCE or so, a WOMAN wrote what was probably a romance novel that became the sacred book of Judaism. Of course, that was only after about 1100 more years and four redactions over that time frame.
So, the irony is that a woman or a very effeminate male wrote the original book upon which the major three religions of the world are based. I find that amazing, pathetic and logical.

look, i don't understand why everyone is seeing some verses in this anti-female way... in deed, it's a social thing, though... but, no...! even through the act of creation God showed that men&women were equal, by making eve from adam's rib (that can be read- from the same material, not a lower one), and not again from the dust, in order to express the beauty of marrige ,as afterwards recorded in genesis 2:24, in saying they have to be one single body (also 1cor 7:4). now, the part eveyone "likes" is ephesiens 5:22. but, again, as a wife, a woman must obey her husbant, while her husbant must love her like Christ loves the church...(eph 5:22-27) now, let's face it... i'm a girl... if a guy would love me like that, i should be a really big fool (and that's an euphemism) if i won't listen&do whatever he says me to... but i'm not taking the listening&obeying part, without its context... each one has a duty...:))

If you believe what the Bible says - yes. On the other hand, the Bible is just a reflection of the culture at the time it was written. At that time, men were considered superior to women. If it was to be written today, it would be very different.

Yes and no. Perfectly stated in My Big Fat Greek Wedding- "The man may be the head of the family, but the woman is the neck, and she can turn the head any way she wants."
Men are meant to be protectors of women. Women are meant to be nurturers of their families. They have different roles in the family and in society, but they are equal as people. Men have a certain authority as heads of their households, it's true, but they must also listen to and respect the women in their lives.

i think of that's basically a cultural custom and that for the period of a family, somebody ought to be an particularly final determination maker if no compromise would be reached, and since the guy grew to become into historically the only bread winner, he have been given the authority. yet even then, I guess lots of adult males deferred to their better halves while it got here to the youngsters and the considerable different and young little ones, while you evaluate that grew to become into (and nevertheless is) women human beings's area (not asserting that's their basically area, basically that adult males in many situations leave that to the female whether they the two artwork outdoors the homestead).

Well, truth be told, God did appoint men to be in a position of authority over women. Problem is, He never got around to telling women. He said He forgot. But I really think He was afraid to tell them. You know how they get when they get mad at you. He just couldn't face them.

Good question. You are correct. Like the apostle Paul writes, "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." 1Tim 2:11-14
And God says through Isaiah, "As for My people, children are their oppressors, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths." Is 3:12
As for why God made it so, it's to illustrate the idea of submission to authority. "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior." Eph 5

Ephesians 5
21Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; "
Why did god make it so? Well, when you look at the functions of society, it was determined that men's role is best played as protector and provider of the familial unit (the ultimate unit in Christian Society), and as such role, is the leader.
However, this is not to imply that women are inferior to men, which is a common misinterpretation, but that they best serve a different role in society. Arguably, the more important function of teaching and raising the future generation, thusly ensuring the continued prosperity of the family. So it goes that the man provides for now so that the woman can secure the future. They are complimenting features of a whole, and are equally important, for a family does not properly function without either.

no question too controversial to pose?
um. First, the premise is that a person believe in God.
The rest will be true. (based on that premise)
Genetically speaking, in species where the male is larger than the female, it is a sign that the species' males tend to be well, not faithful.
Perhaps the directive in the bible is meant to address men's infidelity to women rather than women's subordinate position.
The success of the species may depend on more males successfully mating with one female, rather than one male successfully mating with many females.
In a study done on single vs not, it was found (mind you this was "Vogue" magazine or some such source), that the happiest people were single women. The least happiest was the single male.
Just speculating.
