The largest population doing that come from India and they are willing to PAY very well for it!
American Immigration officers turn a blind eye.

Because I'm a law-abiding citizen, this issue is not about my "opinion". It's about the law. Marrying someone for the sole purpose of obtaining a green card is against the law.

I've dated women from Poland, Spain, France, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, the Phillipines and other places, who rushed me to marry them to obtain legal status.
Each of the women I dated was here on a temporary visa, and pushed me for marriage so they could stay.
I've also dated many immigrant women who have permanent legal status, and didn't need marriage to stay here or press me for it.
About two weeks into dating my girlfriend from Poland she asked: "Will you marry me?" and I said, "well...yeah...if I love you and get to know you, maybe a year from now." But she was in a hurry to marry, and I later found out she was dating other guys behind my back, toward that goal. Possibly the most manipulative woman I ever met. I seriously thought of reporting her to immigration, but decided that would have been too spiteful.
The one I respected was the girl I knew from the Phillipines, because she really cared about me, and wanted a real marriage. I would have married her, but she left the state, to live with one of her relatives, and I later found out she married another guy.
If someone really loves an American, and it's a real marriage, where they live together and really love each other, then I see no problem with it. That's what the law is designed for.
If it's a case of marrying someone in a fake marriage, in exchange for something to get legal residence in the U.S., I feel disgust for that.
I work with a lot of hispanics and Brazilians at my job, and socialize with many outside of work, and I've had some approach me about marriage for legal purposes only, and I made it very clear that I wasn't a candidate for that.

I know of a victim of this and she was totally devastated to learn her 'husband' was not a 'virgin' when they got married like he said. Also he had wives in Bangladesh and children and also has been going out on this gal probably since they were married.
She is not the type that would have ever considered this scheme since especially he came on as worshiping her and very sincere. She had her heart set on having a life with him w/children but after getting his papers he told her he wanted to be single and live by himself. She was shattered(but is getting over it fast since she started dating a few nice guys).
People just need to consider that as a possible reason when they meet someone in need of US docs, not that it may always be the case but it could be the case.
In the book 'TripleCross' by P Lance, one of the planners of the WTC met a woman from Cali and married her and had his base from her home. We need to get educated real fast.

I don't think too much of them.. and like you, I do believe it is happening.. and what is worse I think some Americans are being paid to do it... then a few years down the line they separate.
Not sure what can be done to stop it.. other than not allowing the illegal to stay. if it is a love match, the American will go live in Mexico.
That should cut down on that!

I'm all for it. While I can't really imagine anyone WANTING to be a US citizen, having spent so much time trying to have mine revoked, any one that want it...I say go for it. I'll even marry a foreign girl myself, if I could find one.

Your NOT misinformed...I see it every day...I work as a paralegal in an attorneys office in North Miami...it is appalling to say the least...first, it is against the law to do so...secondly, there is also the fact that it cheapens the vows of matrimony....
Call me old school if you like...but thats how I see it...btw, the penalty for marraige fraud is 250,000.00 fine and 10 years in prison with the intending immigrant being deported...heres a link to verify that:

You are grossly misinformed. You cannot just get a green card for marrying an American citizen. You would still have to go through the normal immigration procedures. But thanks for playing.
What good is an opinion based on an untruth?
In addition, you seem to be passing judgment on people from any other country. I suppose because in your view they are illegal aliens BEFORE they are human right? Nice, real nice.

Well, that person should think twice before they do..
It's like marrying for money. They should know what they're getting into and marry a good looking immigrant.
Any who, the 2nd answer sounds pretty good.
