The Bible was written by over forty authors over hundreds of years. Unless it is a government conspiracy, I really dont think anyone would organize a group of talented authors in that magnitude to write a single book. If you read Genesis, you will learn that The Flood covered the entire earth. Even the tallest mountaintop was covered in water. Never in history was there so much water to that magnitude. I know that the Bible is the truth, because I have studied it and analyzed it, and read it every day. The disciples (followers of Jesus), weren't just authors making up a story. Jesus was a real person, historical evidence points to that. If Jesus wasn't God The Father in human form, why would the disciples write out their mistakes? Countless times throughout the New Testament, the disciples tell how they have been wrong. Jesus always corrects them. If you look to the book of Numbers, it is exact in every detail as to how many people were in which tribes. It is literally impossible for somebody to take that much time and effort just to write a fictional book. Nobody would read it. If you look at "science," it just doesn't add up. I know you are cautious about accepting The Bible, you don't it to all be a clever scam. You don't want to be "gullible." Think of it this way: If you are right, so what? When we die, there will be no afterlife, God is a myth, made by man, and Christians are suckers. But if you are wrong: You are going down a long, hard, road that ends in fire. I am a devout Christian, and I have placed my faith in Jesus Christ. Since then, He has changed my life in more ways than I can count. I challenge you to do the same. Take the leap of faith, you won't be sorry.

Hmmmm well ok i think we need to give or somewhat split this question into 2 sepperate things...
1. Lets look at the Katrina bit... do you for a moment think that if we had not destroyd most of the earths naturall eco system we would be getting the problemos we are currently experiancing..? I think if we dwell on this a bit we will surely have the answer for ourselves and need not ask this question in the first place..!!
2. The Bible ... here i feel that most of what the bible says may well have come to pass but alas i feel most of it may had been changed over time to reflect the times that people lived in so it may give them a sense of direction and for others a way to make money out of something important.. you need not any proof the flood happened as what you need to do is understand the story and look at it in the correct context in other words look at its symbolism of what its trying to tell you and you will then understand not only about this part but many other parts within it... Gain knowledge and understanding and only Truth will be left standing..
I have found of recent an interesting translation of some scriptures which have been recently discovered check it out and let me know what ya think .. that is on the basis you where looking for Truth.. be sure if you do read it to read it with an open mind ..
Love Always

that isnt possible....you cant deny the fact that the bible was written over 2000 years ago.any historian.scientist.or bible stuident would give you a long, but accurate explanation. also, the bible has prophecies...and some are even being fufilled today...that is proof that the bible was inspired by god,and its accuracy is evident.
2cd,god promised that he would never flood THE EARTH IN ORDER TO DESTROY ALL THE WICKED. New orleans,is not the whole earth...
Also,God did not cause the flood or hurricane Katrina god does not cause any suffering in the world today. (1john 5:19) even says that "the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." aka:satan the devil. SO in a world that satan is ruling,of course bad things happen.
I really want to explain more to you...I really do. But it is getting late,I am tired, and my fingers hurt from typing. If you'd like,we can exchange email address and you can just ask me any biblical questions you have. I am a trained bible student...this is my job.haha. hope this helps! :)

Hey, what a nice long, unintelligle sentence. If you write like this, I can only imagine how well you read ;P So how could you even understand the writings in the Bible? LOL!
People like you want to easily blame God whenever there's a natural disaster. But you don't want to thank God whenever a child is born or for the beauty of a sunset. Why is that? God didn't kill humans and animals; the hurricane Katrina did. God gave those who lost everything the hope and courage and strentgh they needed to deal with their loss. If God wanted them to suffer with no hope, then he wouldn't have inspired the thousands of people who stepped in to help the Katrina victims. Instead, he would've left them alone to suffer. But they have survived through their hope, courage and strength. One day you'll survive something really tragic and deep in your heart, you will just KNOW there is a God. Or you'll convince yourself there's not a God but you'll never recover from ANY life disaster without hope, courage & strength. And you won't get those 3 things from the government. They come from God, within yourself. Peace Sincerely. :-)

We have to admit that we believe it by faith not by proof. However the evidence that you use to prove evolution is in our opinions the very proof of a universal flood. You say that the strata layers are proof of millions of years but studies clearly teach that a flood produces strata exactly as it is found throughout the world. It all depends on how you apply the evidence. BTW God gave the rainbow as a sign of a covenant that He would never destroy the whole earth again by a flood, not local floods. He also says that once more He will destroy the world, but it will be by fire.

Maybe if you read the bible you would know. God will not destroy the entire earth with a flood again...
Genesis 9:11. And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

The way we know what happened is real is because it is inspired and is very accurate in certain historical details, particularly the geography of the middle east. Also the rainbow is a symbol of the promise that God would never destroy the entire world with a flood again.

Genesis 9
8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9 "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."
12 And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."
God promised He would never flood the earth.
I lived in Chalmette LA and believe me it was very devasting
that a whole city was destroyed and still in need of a lot of work.
I don't have the answers to your question, but I can't let something like that make me loose my faith in God.

First of all, the rainbow was a promise that God wouldn't destroy the entire Earth via flooding ever again. While Katrina was extremely catastrophic, it did not deal with the whole Earth. Secondly, proof for the flood can be seen in science where whole fossils and perfectly preserved organisms are found in layers of limestone sediment.
