Now thumbs down dont mean a lot. I almost always get a thumbs down on all my answers no matter if it would be identical to the other answers on the question so I think I have a thumbs down follower.

I dont really care it doesnt affect my points or anything. My favorite is when I leave a good answer, then someone will give me a thumbs down, and then re word EXACTLY what I had just said! That one does make me mad but otherwise, no the thumbs and all are pretty insignificant

A thumbs down does not discourage me. I know that some of my answers won't be the most popular but I will go ahead and submit my answer. My answers are not generated for me to be popular. A sincere question will get an honest answer, and its downhill from there.
I won't get mad, I won't get angry for thumbs down. A best answer is always a relief to know that I am not the only one who feels that way. But most importantly, my answers are never geared to incite anger.
Hopefully you will never allow a thumbs down to discourage you. You keep on answering, but be honest about your answers, for in doing so, you are honest with yourself and you will not let popular opinion sway your thoughts.

It's never encouraging. But, if you are a counter-culture type person who doesn't run with the heard, it could be a good indicator, that you can think on your own; also different "cliques" automatically give their friends numerous thumbs up; and also, quite often by the answer we give and who we are giving it to, we can guess if it will be popular or unpopular, but some times one just has to call things the they way they see 'em and not the way others would like 'em to be.

I once got a thumbs down for saying that sunscreen prevents sunburns. Who knows why people rate thumbs up or down sometimes. You shouldn't let the judgments of others make you feel bad. I also think it's best to give out lots of thumbs ups to help make things more positive again.

No, I don't let it make me sad. And even just a few thumbs down doesn't make me mad or angry - it's when fellow Christians send me email telling me that I'm on the path to hell or leading people to hell that I get a bit peeved. Even so, I feel that with them tossing around so much judgement at me based on one flippin' answer they don't agree with or like - is probably not seen with favor by God, so if I DO end up in hell, I'll probably see them there.

No, thumbs-downs do not discourage me, but they can be perplexing. I well understand the thumbs-down on the R&S board when replying about the LDS Church, but I get thumbs-down when answering guitar questions on the Performing Arts site. That I do not understand because I've been a guitarpicker longer than I have LDS.

People thumb down what they don't want to hear. It means nothing other than they disagreed with you. The thumbs up/down system is abused. It was meant for "good answer, bad answer" but that's not how it is used.
Edit: See what I mean...?

Heck no! A thumbs down says that someone doesn't like the truth or doesn't have a sense of humor!
