I'm a guy and I can tell you that there are plenty of guys who are stuking ftupid enough to just take pure advantage of a woman's love and leave her with nothing but a lifetime full of heart-ache!!!!!

The father of a bride wants to see his daughter be CARED for TRULY and sincerely by the best man possible!!!!

And (speaking as a father as well as a step-father) I would kill any young man who dared to try to take advantage of my step-daughter's vulnerability! I have a shovel and I know where I can bury rubbish without suspicion.

It's all about protection and love I guess, loving the children you care about and giving your life towards their love and protection from the multitudes of human male-scum which proliferate over the earth's surface like a bacteria!

This is really just to look out for you. In some siuations, if the guys dont know one another too well, it can be kind like a silent warning. "Take care of her" is what you hear - But what they are really saying is "Take care of her or I'll break your neck."

Obviously, not all women need protecting. However, many men feel as if it is there duty to protect the woman and so these little sayings not only influence other guys but also help to 'keep you safe.' Either way, it is pretty nice to know you have someone looking out for you! :)

Its a tradition of a man or leader of his family gives the responsibility to another man to provide ,protect and make happy. They have to do their very best to insure that you are loved, cared for, respected and happy. All good fathers wish this for their children when they marry. For example, if your boyfriend or husband hits you he better answer to your father and the police. Think wedding vows.

It's custom here and in most other cultures. "You be good to her," is a common admonition. You say that you love knowing your bf is there to protect you. You've bought into it, too! Why wouldn't everyone want that for themselves, their friends, their daughters, sisters, etc? Thank your lucky stars, too. In some cultures, the family of the bride has to ply the groom and family with a large dowry to get him/them to accept her into their family, and she is to serve and obey him for life! Women are still taken advantage of in our culture, too. In case you've never had to take a problematic car to a mechanic, or hire someone to fix your plumbing, believe me, women get ripped off. I think that "take care of her" is a wonderful thing.

It's an old, old tradition. It used to be that men were expected to provide security for their wives in dangerous times. So there is still a left over tendency to be protective.

Also, telling someone to "treat her right" or "Look after her" is a warning that any abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.

Evolutionarily, there are two reasons for even having males:
1: Bring in the protein (hunting)
2: Keeping the family (including the woman) safe

Its in the genes.

Its also why many men have a hard time dealing with their lover making more money than them - it means that they are failing in their role as provider. It can be very emasculating.

Goes back to the caveman days, men were the protectors of the family because of their strength and physical dominance over the female.

Only animal I know where the females are the breadwinners is the lion. The male lion lays on his a.s.s. while the female lion goes out and gets the meal... Once she gets back with the kill, the male lion eats first and whatever is left, the rest of the pack eats.

I guess it's just kinda an old concept back in the day when women were seen weaker than men. It is kinda comforting, but shouldn't we promise the same thing?
