O.K. forgive a newbie but an aged woman that served in our military and now takes care of Vets and current armed forces by literally having them in my home.
My former Air Force pilots picked up plenty of Marines. Our Navy doctors are the best that are. Our Army is fighting right now in Iraq, my fellow army vets will attest to this fact. I haven't met a stupid Army, Marine, Air Force, Navy person.
The Army and Marines go to where the action is. It takes a special person to believe this. They fight often hand to hand. If you need to weigh intelligence versus fighting skills the statistics are not in your favor.
Blessings

The Air Force and Navy don't have a hard nose bad attitude. We just have higher standards. One of those standards is the test we have to take to enter into the military. I believe the Air Force has the highest testing requirement of 44 or 46 out of 100. The Army requires only a 30 something. It may have fluctuated over the years. Also, I heard recently that the Army has allowed personnel with some felonies to enter into its service, as well as people with visible tattoos (ie. on their hands and face). I'm not sure what the Marines standards are. I have heard that if a person had been taking Ritalin for more than a certain amount of years, they couldn't be in the marines. I'm not sure. I do know a lot of people in the Army, so I don't think the above is all false. Hope this is insightful enough for you!

You got to think about what they are in control of. The Navy is made of ships that carry missiles that can be fired by sea and hit most places in the world. Also some of the subs carry nuclear missiles . Most aircraft carriers in the fleet are nuclear powered and if some went crazy it would not be a good day. If a whole ship was taken over there would be hell to pay. For the Air Force is they have some heavy bombs that could do some damage. If some pilot stole a B-2 stealth bomber they would go of the radar and could strike anywhere and since it is an US jet it would be thought to have been an attack by the US. I'm not saying that this is happens at all, but they must look into this.

You have it a bit backwards, the Navy will take you, they always need Boatswain Mates to chip paint. The Marines are picky on who they get. They aren't going to pick some 300 pound dude off the street. The Air Force is picky because they normally go after the ones who had a pretty decent ASVAB score.

The Marines and Army are chock full of smart people first off.
At the moment because of budget concerns the Air Force and Navy have been shrinking in size so they can be choosy on who enlists these days.

Sorry kid your info is wrong. The Marines have high standards when it comes to enlisting. When I was on the streets recruiting I had to pass on several kids to the Navy and Army because I couldn't enlist them. We don't except HS drop outs, and only a very small % of GED. The Airforce does demand a higher ASVAB then all other branches, but that doesnt constitute better people.

When it comes to Air Force or Navy they aren't as picky as you may think. You do require a few more things though. For instances in AirForce you require perfect vision, and this is understandable. In the Navy you need to be able to withstand sub zero water temperatures while working at the same time. The regular Army, which I am currently a member of in the Canadian Forces, is just a lot more labour. We walk everywhere we go, we don't sail or fly. Some of us drive but only in the armoured units. Even then, before you drive something complex like a tank it takes many years of service and getting familiar altogether.

It's probably a perpetuation of the old belief that Marines are cannon fodder and that being in the Navy or Air Force requires some specific type of technical knowledge. Everyone knows, however, that it requires just as much technical knowledge to be a Marine nowadays as it does to be a sailor or an Air Force man/woman.

just in case for those people that dont know
the MARINES are a part of the NAVY, they are a branch of the navy
so in reality theres only three branches USAF, NAVY, and ARMY
the marines and army take in more people due to the fact that the marines and army go in first depleting the oppenents infantry, and if they need assistance then the NAVY or USAF can come in overhead or by sea ( far from danger because if multi-million dollar equipment) and barrage the enemy with aerial attacks
also anyone can join the air force ( you know what i mean ) but it takes skilled individuals to be fighter pilots or surveillance pilots, and the navy are HIGHLY trained combat units that must be able to work in teams otherwise they are nothing
but i respect the marines the most because they charge into battle head first and take the most battery
OOOOAH semper fidelis

it all really depends on the job you are trying to go into. for the marines ( i was one) they try to look for a person that can handle a large amount of stress and still stand up and do what they have to do. as for the airforce and navy being hard asses well thats the same thing the job. alot of the jobs in those branches deal with technology and critical systems. so you need to have a fair amount of intelligence. but saying that being in the marines and army means you are stupid. is stupid its self. i know several people in each that have atleast 2 college degrees. and there are several jobs that require alot of computer skills. also you need to think that the marines and the army are our source for ground infantry and most of the ground vehicles so you need more physical skills then mental. in the airforce and navy you have to be able to make complicated calculations to fire artillary weapons from longdistances and fly aircraft without hitting the guys on the ground.
