Real ginger ale has ginger and lemon, which can be very healthy. But most commercial ginger ales only have artifical ingredients. Check the labels.
OTOH, home-made ginger ale has some alcohol in it (not much, but some), and it's possible to brew something really nasty if you aren't careful with your cleanliness. Commercial ginger ale is usually very sanitary.
If you want a healthy drink, try mixing fruit juice with soda water. Or, you could make semi-homemade ginger ale by mixing grated ginger with lemon juice and honey (or sugar syrup), and then adding ice and soda water. If you buy the soda water, there are tons and tons of semi-healthy drinks you can make! One of my favorites is take some fresh mint and put it in a seal-able jar. Add some sugar (about 1/4 cup for a quart/liter) and some ice cubes, and shake until the mint is well-bruised and smelling good. Add soda water, and stir. Squash a kumquat over the glass, and add it as well. Wonderfully refreshing, and very elegant!

No soda is "good" for you, but it is common to find all natural/ naturally sweetend ginger ale, which is much better for you than the aspratame, high fructose cornsyrup, and other sugar replacements found in different sodas.
so if you find a natural brand, it is not bad.

I don't know if its healthier but it makes me feel better. It also reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom would always give me ginger ale to help me feel better.
