Bondi is famous - BUT too over crowed and overrated.

I love the beaches North Qld, Trinity Beach in Cairns, the beaches out on the reefs and Port Douglas !

This site is great - all about Qld Beaches http://www.qldbeaches.com

There are so many great beaches in Australia, it would be impossible to name the 'best'.

What do you like? Swimming, surfing, sunbathing, board riding, walking along the beach, climbing dunes, beach buggying? There are different beaches which cater to each of these activities, and many more!

There are beaches where you can watch famous people, and beaches where you can be watched! There are beaches where you may never see another person, there are beaches where you drive up to the sand, and beaches where you walk a mile through bush to reach the water.

Some of my favourites are

Wamberal Beach (NSW Central Coast) just because I grew up there :-)

Eighty Mile Beach (Western Australia North Coast) because it's eighty miles of beach ... how much better can it get!

Cactus Beach (bottom of South Australia) because it's got fantastic board riding, great to watch

Lobster Beach (NSW Central Coast) because it takes half a day to walk in, half a day to walk out and a lifetime to forget how beautiful it is

Cable Beach (Western Australia) ~ wow, come to think of it, WA certainly has some long sandy golden gorgeous stretches of beach!

Holloways Beach (North Queensland) because it's not what you expect

Bells Beach (Victoria), great surfing and spectacular scenery, but cold water!

The list could just go on and on ...

Here's a thought ~ visit them all and decide which one YOU like best and report back to us :-)

Cheers :-)

Bondi is the most popular beach, but honestly most beaches in Australia are great, but don't go too far north for fear of crocodiles and sharks.

the beaches around Perth, Sydney, Newcastle, The Gold Coast, Surfer's Paradise and Port Stephens are all great

Australia has 20,000km of coastline, thousands of kilometres of rivers and hundreds of lakes. All of them have beaches. There are so many good beaches you can have a magical day on one today, another magical day on the one next door tomorrow and an even better day on the one next to that the next day.

There are beaches for surfing, for swimming, for fishing, for sunbathing, for fossil hunting, for eating icecream, for picnics and barbecues and camping. There are nude beaches and gay beaches. There are beaches with seals and whales and penguins. There are remote beaches and even more remote beaches; city beaches and crowded beaches; huge beaches and tiny coves; beaches with sand dunes and rainforest; desert beaches and tropical beaches. There are beaches which will cost a fortune to buy a drink and beaches where you couldn't buy anything if you wanted to.

What is Australia's best beach? I don't know, your preference will be different from mine. You might never decide which is the best - but you can have a lifetime of fun and pleasure looking for it.

i agree with the other guy, bondi in syd is prob the most famous..but it's really not all that cos it tends to get overcrowded..try bronte which is next to bondi..less touristy. However, i think the beaches along the gold coast are the best, but again, surfers paradise is touristy. Along coolangatta, at the start of the gold coast has fine sand and great waves, particularly over snapper rocks which is where the quicksilver and roxy pro starts each year

Sailor's Beach and Captain's Beach, Jervis Bay... but you need permission to go there so try some of the public beaches in Jervis Bay instead - beautiful white sand and not as many people as everywhere else near Sydney.

I like all the beaches on the Sunshine Coast.
The "best" would depend what you want to do at a beach.
A good surf beach would be different to a family beach suitable for toddlers.

Popular doesnt always mean the best...I have travelled around Oz and my opinion is this...Sunshine Coast have the most awesome beaches and caters for all lifestyles and people. It truely is Heaven on earth. Coolum,Caloundra,Mooloolaba,Maroochydore.Peregian and many more. Northern NSW are also beautiful...and South of Perth at Esperence. Hope that is helpful
