I overdosed on Effexor xl. I was later told that they effect your heart. Any amount that exceeds the prescribed dosage is an over dose. How much over the prescribed dosage that it might take to cause problems, I have no exact idea. I would think that an accidental overdose, I presume you mean they take a few, probable would not be that bad. I think that most of them have a sort of safety dose that exceeds the usage dose. That said it is never a good idea to take more than prescribed and even if they take only a few more than allowed still get them to a hospital. I think as it's children you are talking about, you are better safe than sorry!

Overdose On Effexor

As far as I know (i'm not a doctor) you can't overdose on Effexor XR 150 or most anti-depressant type drugs. I'm not talking about Xanex or Valium but SSRI's and recent generation anti-depressants. That is one of the great things about these drugs they are non-addictive and don't have the overdose dangers you have with opiates and benzodiazapines. (sp?) The body will naturally flush the body of "extra" medication if its only "over taken" once, or even a few times.

IDK but it's really powerfull! Keep it locked up tight. If they take too much it'll be apparent pretty quickly.

On another note, it's also really important that they continue the same dosage or come off of it gradually. The withdrawal effects are uncomfortable.

I have to disagree w/ Annie. Many meds can kill you if you take too much even though they aren't opiates. The cause of death is often liver or kidney failure.

I'm not licensed to advise on meds ask a pharmacist or better yet a doctor.

Maybe it even depends on factor like age and weight and other medications.

The other meds would be a bigger concern.
