They know someone doesn't beleive the Bible is true, and then they try to convince them it is by quoting the Bible to them? If they didn't believe it when they read it, why would you saying it help?

"the bible fortells prophecy's that were fufilled hundreds of years later!"
Did you happen to notice that the Bible is both the book predicting it and saying it came true?

Also, I'd like to point out that I grew up as a Christian and have read the majority of the Bible. I've never been able to believe it was more than stories.

Because it is where we get OUR teachings, and you ask a question, that's where our answers are! What so different than atheists telling us to go read their beliefs and quoting their sources!? And by their own admission, they have READ the Bible themselves and will also quote from it, of course because they say it's a lie, but that's another story...I will continue to use GOD'S WORD for my answers for all the questions here or at home. It is God's word and you are questioning God...where else would we get the answers? Anything else you want to pick apart of alllll our faults?

because, the bible is inspired by god. They cant deny the fact that it is true...the bible fortells prophecy's that were fufilled hundreds of years later! only a book inspired by god could do that...also,when we apply our life by the bible,we end up being happier. There is just so much in the bible,to prove that it is true.THat is why they try to reason with them. Besides,I dont understand how a person can say that the bible is not true..i think they believe it,but they just dont want to read it or apply their lives by it. But they had to have read the whole thing,b4 they decided that it wasnt true...it just doesnt add up,what those people think...i hope y ou arent one of those people. hope this helps :)

If the Bible were just a bunch of words written by men, your point would be well-taken. The reason why a Christian should use the Bible to defend the Bible is because it describes itself this way: "The Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword... and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12)
It's not just a dead, dry, dusty book... it is living and powerful, able to cut to the heart of a matter, and to shed light on a person's thoughts and motives, even if they do not want to admit it. I'm not just saying that- I have experienced it.

Not all Christians do that. ;-) I try to avoid quoting the Bible to people who don't believe in it.
Now, maybe the reason SOME Christians do that is because they believe the Bible proves itself, and they can't understand how a person could NOT believe that. Make sense? Probably not. It doesn't really make sense to me either.

Stop stereotyping. I'm a Christian and I never try to convince anyone of anything I know is completely against their belief system. That would make about as much sense as someone trying to convince me to be an atheist.

Gods word is better than my word.If someone does not believe in the bible then they probably did not read it all.Anyway, what are we suppose to say?I don't always quote the bible.I also don't shove it down someone's throat, but I believe it is my duty as a Christian to try and convert a non-believer.

Well that's inherent in Christianity because of the bible. The bible contradicts itself over 400 times. In order for someone to believe the bible they would have to suspend all logic, thus when doing other things in life logic has little or no place.

Many Christians are trained to lob bible verses around like hand grenades.
It doesn't work that way.

I don't waste time trying to get anyone to believe. They either do or they don't. If I don't want anything shoved up or down an orifice, why would they?

Exactly. It's like they think if we read it one more time we will suddenly become believers.
Just like they suddenly turn Muslim when someone quotes the Quran.....
