After the arrest is made, the court gets the charges, the defendant makes an initial appearance. Depending on the plea Not guilty, guilty, or no contest. Plea Not guilty the prosecutor will get the case and work on proving guilt or working a plea agreement, and there will be a court date set for the next step. Guilty or no contest, the judge will take care of right then and there. This is for Ohio, hope it helps
