By the way we do have a/c.Its just that it's so hot outside and they tested the buses and it was 131 degrees.

Yes school should start after Labor Day. I am from MS and we started August 8th, but we have air conditioning so i guess it is ok. I would only agree to go after Labor Day if we still got out like May 20 and not June 20.

I agree with you! Where I live we start in early August and get out in the middle of May.It would make more since to start after Labor Day and get out right before Memorial Day,it is cooler in Sept.and the schools would save money on a/c bills. It seems like the teachers and students would not be so grumpy...way too hot! But some schools go year round with a mth. off hear and there,so I guess we've got it better than some.

Some states have laws stating That no schools can start before Labor Day. If your buses are 131 degrees, that is dangerous and ought to be illegal. I don't think any child should have to start school during the hottest month of the year. But, be thankful you live in a country that allows you to go to school.`

Traditionally, school started in the fall because kids were needed at home to help with the harvest. This isn't true today. In many places, school is now in session year round - three 3-month semesters with a four week period in between each. That means no more Christmas holidays, Easter holidays, spring breaks, etc. Just a rotating three month semester followed by a four week break. There are many advantages to this system - it's mor economical to use a school year round than have it sit empty during the summer. And schools can be equipped with both furnaces and air conditioning to ameliorate the effects of the weather.

It starts after Labour Day here. And I agree with you: it's hard to focus when it's hot! A lot of our schools hear don't have air conditioning and even just in May and June (school runs from Sept to the end of June here), it can get pretty hot and uncomfortable.

Here it starts the final week of August....and whilst i used to be a little one it regularly started after Labour Day....it was once cooler through then and made for a ideal summer time adopted through ideal timing for a brand new college yr. I desired it that method. Blue

If we did that, we wouldn't be in school until mid-October. It sounds like you need air conditioning rather than a new schedule.
