I have never had a job before. It should be wasy since it's only bagging groceries, but still. It's a organic grocey store that I shop at all the time, and I figured I'd work there, since they hire at 15, and not many other places do. I'm kinda nervous, since I don't know what to expect. Tomorrow is my first day and I think I prepared as well as I could. I read the handbook, uniform is clean, and so forth... But I would still like some advice, like how to act, ECT...

Thanks!!

I think it's great that you are concerned about making a good impression for your first job. That's a great indicator that you're going to be very successful in your career as you get older.

The best advice I can give you is to simply be friendly. Smile at all your new co-workers, and introduce yourself. Sometimes starting a new job can be a little intimidating, so have confidence! Be the first to smile and say, "Hi, today's my first day, my name is ......., it's nice to meet you!"

Concerning your management team, look them in the eye when they speak to you. Smile and listen to all that they teach you. Ask questions if you don't understand something.

Good luck, I think you'll do great!

Overall, my advice would be that most things that we worry about never happen. But the first day at a school where everybody knows everybody but you can be rough. I was in that position once and didn't do well, but I know now that I needed to be open, pick someone who looked nice and start talking to them. Courage. But packing a veg lunch, I'm on it. I've been packing vegetarian lunches for my kids for several years now. From what I've seen, you're doing your body a BIG favor by not eating cafeteria food. My son always has the same boring lunch, natural peanut butter, low-sugar jelly on whole wheat, with an apple. My daughter makes use of her insulated lunch bag and ice pack by taking in: * soy yogurt (I buy the larger container and portion some out into little Tupperwares for her, add frozen fruit which thaws by lunchtime) * pita bread and hummus or another dip * canned fruit (again, large can portioned out) * soy cream cheese and jelly sandwich * microwaved tofu (see link) * leftover corn bread That's what she likes. I have a lot more ideas at my lunch page (link). Some of the links there have dozens of ideas.

You'll do just fine :) To add to what the others have suggested, make sure that you are hydrated, have enough fluids since you are exercising in a way. Make sure that you put meat and poultry in a separate (plastic) bag so that they don't contaminate any of the other items. Ice cream or other frozen food may go in a separate plastic bag as well but great to ask your supervisor or trainer about that. And on that note, don't hesitate to ask your trainer questions as 'there is no such thing as a stupid question' ;)

Just be your polite, courteous self, and show your great work ethic. And no one likes a 'clock-watcher' who repeatedly looks at the clock and says how much they want to leave :) That being said, arrive before your scheduled shift and perhaps you can stay a couple minutes til after your shift has ended (if legal for your age). Wishing you the best of luck!

Good luck tomorrow!!! It sounds like you did everything well so far. Make sure you get lots of sleep tonight (although you may have a hard time falling asleep if you are a little nervous). Most important for tomorrow: Make sure you are on time!!! It's OK if you're a little early, but don't be late! Also, it's OK to feel strange for a week or so until you get to know the people who work there and get to know the routine. It will get easier. Don't forget to pack some lunch, unless you plan to buy there. Which may be a good idea just for the first day until you find out whether they have fridge or a microwave for employees. Have a great time!!

On your first day, u should smile and greet everyone you meet. Since its a grocery store, you'll be meeting alot of peoples. So you must learn to smile and always be friendly to the customers even if you meet some grumpy types. Always be open-minded and ready to learn more about your work. Its hard on first day but it will be easier on the next day, trust me. Find some friends and learn from them. Atleast they could help you if you have any trouble. But the important thing is, be yourself. Enjoy the work you do, and you'll be happy. Best of luck and don't worry, you'll be alright tomorrow. If you ever felt nerveous, just take a deep breath and exhale slowly. Do a few times, and you''ll feel calm.

I would:

1) Be happy! Smile a lot and be friendly to costumers.
2) Dress casually. Possibly don't wear short shirts and a tank top, but jeans and a T-shirt. If you have a uniform or they advised you on what to wear, follow that.
3) Arrive about 5 minutes early. To be late on the first day of work gives a very poor impression.
4) Relax, you'll be fine! =)

I've had many different types of jobs in my life and I've found that to be successful and happy doing whatever it you are doing is to keep telling yourself that you are going to show the world what it means to be the "best doggone grocery bagger" in the world. Take pride in yourself and the job that you do. Always smile at the customers and be willing to do that little extra. Your boss will notice and not only will you will be successful, you will look back at your first job experience with fond memories. Good luck!!

OK i work at a grocery store and let me tell you it sux. You need comfortable shoes because your feet and back are gonna KILL be ready for it. For the job just be nice to the customers and charming. Ask hi how are you doin and stff and be outgoing you have to make it fun or ull be bored to death. Be outgoing but dont make like a scene so that evry1 in the store can hear you. Engage the cashier in convo if they are near ur afe.

I worked at a grocery store and did the same thing you did. It is a little confusing at first and when the lines get long you have to work fast but always remember work quickly but do your job correctly. You will make mistakes, everyone does but do not let it get to you, just learn from your mistake and try to remember not to repeat it. You will be fine.
