The Scripture verse you mentioned is a historical marker, of when the Lord began the "Great commission" for the Discples of Christ, which states, to go into all the world and preach the Gospel baptising them in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The power to accomplish this came by the Holy Spirit/the comforter which was promised to all of us by the Lord Jesus Christ.

The power to witness comes as a result of being saved/set-free from our sins and later filled with the Holy Spirit. So yes, we do desire to testify of what God is doing in our lives when the Holy Spirit fills us and motivates us to do so.

He is the Vine we are the branches we can do nothing, if we do not abide in Christ. Amen.

John 15:4
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

In Christ,

I see that you have, or are in the process of studying " The Way Of The Master", and that your heart is on fire for the Lord, that's great brother. Yes we are to witness the gospel and tell people the good news of salvation. One thing that's very important that I personally have just experienced is that, there is a time to witness and a time not too. When the time is right to witness the Lord will use you to do that for him. The Lord will put you in the right place and at the right time when he needs to use you to witness. Some of us are Teachers, Preachers, Evangelist, and even apostles. So we need to be first what God wants us to be, before we can do what it is he wants us to do. If you feel honestly that you are an Evangelist be sure its Spirit lead, other wise you are doing it out of your own power, and could possibly turn people away from Christ.
Live by the example Christ has given us, and be a light in the world. People will see that in you, and want what you have. They will want to find out more about you, and what you are all about. ( That's always a good time to witness ) Be patient and trust in the Lord with all your heart, and he'll guide you in what it is he wants you to do with the gifts he's given you.

Jesus underlined the close link between God’s spirit and the preaching work when he told his followers: “You will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon you, and you will be witnesses of me . . . to the most distant part of the earth.” The order of events in this scripture is significant. First, the disciples received the holy spirit, and then they undertook the global witnessing work. Only with the support of God’s spirit would they have the strength to endure in giving “a witness to all the nations.” Appropriately, therefore, Jesus referred to the holy spirit as “the helper.” (John 15:26) He said that God’s spirit would teach and guide his disciples.

BEFORE ascending to heaven in 33 C.E., Jesus Christ gave his followers this parting commission: They proved true to their commission.

Ten days later, at Pentecost, holy spirit came upon about 120 disciples waiting in Jerusalem, and they proceeded to speak “about the magnificent things of God.” On that same day, about 3,000 were baptized. Within a short time, the disciples ‘filled Jerusalem with their teaching.’ With what result? “The number of the disciples kept multiplying in Jerusalem very much.”

From Jerusalem, the witnessing work spread out. As a result of opposition to their witnessing in Jerusalem, the disciples were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Again, the result was increase.

Since then, the witnessing work has expanded to other nations and has literally reached “to the most distant part of the earth.”

Once we believe in Jesus Christ, we will have a desire to wittness. BUt when the HOly SPirit comes upon us, we will have even more desire and even more HOly SPirit power to do so. WE will do this till Jesus comes, as we are commanded to do in the HOly BIble. Yes. Obedience brings blessing and disobedience brings curse. WHen we obey God in all things, He will bless us with so many things, and one is the Holy SPirit power to do all we are called to do.
Great question. COME on ppl, whether it is popular or not lets tell the world about Jesus and what He has done for us. LIve truth and speak it, boldly without fear or compromise.
God calls us to renewal, revival and restoration.
WE can obey God, because HE says we can and He commands us to do so. By the indwelling of the HOly SPirit, we can live like Jesus and speak like Jesus.
Then we can wittness effectively to the whole world, as God commands us to do.
Great question, again...

Witnessing to me has many different functions. We witness when we work well at our job. To be a witness can also mean to help the needy. To be a witness is someone that shows Christ-likeness to others, this is a witness of His love. To receive power is to be able to be used for miracles, this is also a witness. We also receive power to be strong against temptations. To some it could mean the boldness to speak out, like on street corners, or just to speak out to our family and friends. But those that are His are witnesses because we love one another.

When Jesus spoke these words, He was talking directly to His original disciples. But that is somewhat the thing that He was saying to them. One cannot witness without tthe Holy Spirit to guide him.

when you realize what Jesus did for you (that will put a desire to let others know).
The Holy Spirit can put such peace and joy.
The Holy Spirit will put a desire to pray and witness.
The Holy Spirit will give a desire to learn scripture (including scripture to share salvation and truth to others).

Absolutely.

But until you do have the Holy Spirit, you will not comprehend what is going on in this regard.

No...its not what the verse means. We must always study the Bible IN CONTEXT and not yank verses OUT of context for complete instructions. Acts is a transitional book; meaning that the program God has with Israel was phasing OUT and the program God introduced thru Paul, which is the program He is currently in today, was phasing IN. We dont get doctrine from ACTS but from the books with OUR specific instructions. That would be, for the church, the Body of Christ , the books of Romans thru Philemon.

Acts 1:8 has to do with the nation Israel and nothing to do with we who are His body , as we werent in existance yet. God was dealing with the nation Israel exclusively at this point in time. They were to testify to the other nations about God ....Israel was Gods channel of blessing to the rest of the world in Gods plan at that time.
