I'm guilty of thinking some atheists have no compassion for fellow man. I read the horrible things they say on here and right there I'm confirmed, "I'm glad I'm a Christian!" They don't need the constant, 'you're ignorant, fool, close-minded, etc.*drink*.....They want everyone to think they are good people, and I'm sure some are. And I don't want to hear "well if he's a christian, he wouldn't call us names, cast us into hell, etc. If a christian behaves in a way untoward the Bible and God, they are not a Christian. Not to mention too, all the remarks about, "Well, we have a proven higher IQ". OK.

As a Christian, I CAN believe atheists (I'm surprised that your fellow atheists haven't jumped on you for misspelling "athiest"... oops, they only do that to non-atheists). The $25,000 question, however, is how an atheist can consistently believe in atheism and a sense of morality. Either people have inherent worth or they don't. If they do and atheism is true, where do they get this inherent worth from? If they don't, then there is no overriding reason to treat them like they do (we can treat them in an ethical manner, but only if and when we choose do so). Likewise, morality is either absolute or it is not. If it is, where does it derive it absoluteness from if atheism is true? If it isn't, what reason is there to prefer one system of ethics over another?

I understand completely... My best friend was christian and took his religeon VERY seriously... Everyone was talking about if they think they will go to heaven or hell... I said I'll sit in the dirt with the rest of the crowd... It was a joke yet he went around saying I was evil so I never talked to him ever again...

Because they have the "My Way or Hell" attitude. I think I do more to help society than most christians i just don't need a god to do the right thing.

An over-used question, but still valid. They think that without a moral compass like the Bible, everybody would go around fornicating with barnyard animals, murdering children, and swearing gratuitously. When we examine atheism throughout history, this seems a little odd, but hey, if the Bible says it, its got to be true .... right?

because most of them seem to believe that before the 10 commandments that everyone everywhere was just stealing whatever they wanted and killing whoever they wanted to with no consequences.

they dont stop to think that prior to the 10 commandments the egyptians were doing just fine with their laws and regulations, not to mention that the Code of Hammurabi predates the 10 commandments by centuries, and was more detailed and inclusive than such grand declarations as "thou shalt not kill"

because they think that they get their morals from god and the bible.

however, even though Christians bug the crap out of me sometimes, i know that most are decent people with natural morals just like the most of humanity...

athiests can have perfect morals all their lifes and still go to the lake of fire. your friend is only trying to save your soul from eternal torment. you should take a walk down romans road with your friend.

they seem to believe that no one is capable of knowing right from wrong without first reading it in a book and/or that no one could just do right without being threatened with eternal hellfire for breaking the rules..
