The bigs one on Hoth would seem too unwieldy and large to be of much use.
Buth the little ones that the Empire used against the Ewoks could be useful...unless of course you can destroy them by smashing two logs into them...good grief...
What could be more embarrassing than seeing the best legion of storm troopers defeated by teddy bears...but I digress.

Nah the big walkers can be tripped up by wrapping a tow cable around the legs several time. Not to mention in a later book they proved really vunerable to fighter grade laser cannons. The two-legged walkers are unstable on uneven terrain, and can be tripped up by logs and things of that nature.

Those walkers would being way too unwieldy, especially on rough or swampy terrian.

Actually they got the idea for the 'Walkers' from a manned heavy lift robot program developed in the late 1960's. I seem to remember it was a joint NASA/USAF project....

yeah compared to being able to fly like that, the idea of having to walk around in those bulky things seems kind of ridiculous.
