Last August, I moved out of my ex-bf's appartment.

He had one cat and I had 2. My two cats had been together for 8 or 9 years when I moved in with him. The younger of my two cats really bonded tightly with his cat. I didn't want to split up my two, but I also didn't want to break the strong bond that his cat and my younger cat had. So after a long thought process, I asked him if he would keep my 2, as I felt it was best for all involved. He was given custody of my 2 cats with the strict understanding that they were not to be separated.

My older cat and his cat tolerated eachother but would often get in tussles, I figured it would mellow over time. Apparenly that did not happen. My ex mentioned to me that when he and his brother are no longer roommates that his brother was going to take my older cat.

I said no, if that were the case, I wanted the older cat, if not BOTH of them back. He said it was not my decision.

I say he is going back on our verbal agreement.

As long as the cats are all being cared for and in a loving home, does it really matter who has them. I understand your point, that he is not keeping to the verbal agreement. But he really can't be all that bad of a guy to have agreed to keep your 2 cats in the first place. If you really want the cats back and can provide a good home for them then ask him for them back. If he doesn't agree to give them to you then there really isn't much you can do about it. It sounds like the older cat would be happier as an only "child" anyway. I wish you luck!

If you said it was an "All or Nothing" kind of deal, keep to your word. He might own them now, but he went back on his word and your verbal agreement. If I were you, take your two cats and let him deal. If your youngest starts to really get lonely, get another cat. Places like Petco. would probably let you bring your other cats for a "Meet and Greet" with another cat for sale. If all cats seem fine with no problems whatsoever, go for it! (P.S. The cats at Petco. are from your local humane society, so make sure to check up on background!)

he is your ex, did you really expect him to play by the rules and be all nice and still put your wants above his own??? He's been doing you a favor by caring for the cats you abandoned (ya ya you agreed and made arangements, it all boils down to the same thing---you gave away your cats). If i were you, i'd be glad that he made arrangements and didnt just let it out to roam the streets. It is not your decision any more

He should not go back on the verbal agreement. If the agreement was for him to keep the cats together then he should do that.

Since the two were to be there as a pair, his decision to split them up negates the contract and you should get both animals back since he's not abiding by the original decision.

All I got to say, I love my cats, & there`s no way I would give them away in the first place. If you had kids, & seeing a guy & both of your kids got alone. Then you broke up, would you give your kids away. Your terrible.

Custody? It's not a child.

Verbal agreements aren't worth the paper they are not written on.

What?! They're YOUR cats, not his! He has no authority to take your cats away from you. I say to take back your kitties asap! They belong to you, the owner!
