When using Nero 7 to recode DVDs they do not play on our living room DVD player. Now I know it's not the type or brand of the discs I am using since I have done the same with discs from the same pack. It's not the DVD player since we've watched several burned DVDs of home videos, movies, etc. The DVDs don't play on our PlayStation 2 either(they used to when I used nero 6). However my laptop plays them just fine. I used to burn using Nero 6 and it worked just fine...so, is it a Nero 7 problem, and can it be fixed?

it seems, and I JUST ran into this today, that if the video is over 2.5GB it won't allow u to burn it to a DVD ISO format. u have to use UDF format.
If u do that the DVD is not finalized, which is why it plays on your PC and not on a DVD. I haven't tried the one I just did today.
Put it back in and figure out how to finalize it. Then it should play.

Are you using the "DVD Video" option to burn dvd's? it should give you a AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder before you add any files. This is the option you should be using.

And to encode or rip the movie don't use nero, use DVD Shrink, it's pretty much the best DVD ripping program out there.....also use ANYDVD to remove the latest copy protection on new dvd's.
