Aside from financial matters, which are obviously critical to just about everyone, the major reason people would want scholarships would be that they are generally given as an honor to people.

Good Question. On many job applications and resumes, the employer asks you to list your awards and accomplishments. Putting down the name of your scholarships shows the employer that you are a go-getter. This is especially important when you are young or new to the field and don't have many accomplishments to put down yet.
