weekends and late at night you will usually only find hardcore trainers at the gym. most people take the weekend off so the people that are really into training are always there since there are substantially less people and no waiting for equipment, etc.
sometimes I'll hit the gym at midnight and there may be 2-3 other people in there, it's awesome!

That is exactly what over weight people see when they go to the gym, too.
It seems that gyms and fitness centers are places for people to show off their great bodies.
I swim almost daily and have tried to talk friends into joining me. "Oh, no!" They say, " I can't come to the pool until I look better in my bathing suit."
These are people who complain regularly about not being able to get into to shape. Sometimes I just throw up my hands in amazement.
However, on the up side. Our little local gym does have times set aside for "beginners" You are more apt to see some heavier people in these sessions.
Our women only times at the pool also are better attended by over weight women.
At lap swim I see the same faces year in and year out. The bodies have improved greatly... I wish I could get that message across to more people.

maybe they just weren't their at that time or maybe they think that people feel the way that you are talking of them when they go so they are too embarrassed. How would you feel going to the gym thinking that people are thinking rude thoughts about you? I personally attend a gym and exercise on the streets but at 84kilos and 165cm (now) it took alot of balls and a very loud mp3 player on the roads to have the courage to do it. People can be nasty and yell rude things and it makes you feel like ****, I am lucky that at my gym I feel great and motivated to go but not everyone has the self esteem to go or maybe some of these great looking people at the gym were overweight at some stage and have now worked their way to an awesome body

well they might be intimidated to go into a gym with all these people that have been training for years, and there are other gyms that are more geared to helping people who arent in the best of shape and overall well being. some people like that do try to lose weight at other places, but some are lazy while others are comftorable with their bodies.....

I guest that if you are in a good shape than its easier to work out for longer. before joining gym i really was bad at running but now i could run around for like a hour and not get tired.

Maybe the people there were once fat or overweight and now they're in shape. Where is this? If not, the fat people probably are at home and too lazy to move their butt to the gym.

Sometimes you're not at the gym to loose weight(at least I'm not) but to be physically firm, for some(mostly men) to gain muscle.

Did it occur to you that perhaps these people were fat at one time in their lives? Maybe they're at the gym because they have developed healthier lifestyles.

I agree, being obese is a disease, but it is a self- caused disease. Exerise is a key to good health and I dont think they get it!
