He doesnt really love you if he has to insult you. Degradation is used to make the other person feel better about themselves. Dont accept it and stand up for yourself, if it continues, leave him alone! You can always do better!

When you say he "insults you" are you talking about just honest constructive criticism (done in private), or flat-out, in your face, in front of other people insults? If what he's doing is the latter, then he is apparently an abusive, immature, insecure jerk. Don't ever let anybody knock you down verbally and make you question your self worth.

Because when men are too nice to women, women lose respect for them and leave them. That's why nice guys are usually alone (or with women that don't treat them well) while the jerks usually have a woman (or 2, or 3) eventhough they treat them like dirt. But I doubt your boyfriend really falls into either of those categories.
The guys that understand this principle know that sometimes they have to be jerks in order to keep the woman they want to be with.

If he loved you truly, if he really cared about you, he could never treat
you like that. If he says you are his best friend, I'd hate to see how he
treats his enemies. Sweetie, you need to kick him to the curb. He
can't love you and treat you like that. You deserve someone who really
loves and cares about you. Please take some advice from someone
who was there at one time--many years ago. Those that said that he
has to make you look bad and himself feel better are right.

This is a form of emotional abuse. And often times emotional abuse leads to physical abuse. Do you allow your friends to insult you? Would you keep a friend who does? Don't keep a boyfriend who does either. He is bad news and bad for you. You deserve to be with someone who treats you with dignity and respect.

Not a good sign...he may be trying to manipulate you psychologically by using insults and compliments in a controlling fashion.

Sometime men say these things to express there feelings for you. I know it sounds crazy but its true. Or he could be insecure so he has to put you down to make himself feel more of a man

This sounds like emotional abuse. A way for him to bring down your self esteem. Listen tell him how you feel about this behavior. If it continues please leave, it's alot easier to find another boyfriend, harder to build up your self esteem. Peace.

Well, it sounds to me like you've had enough.
Love has to include respect, I think bf needs to learn that.
Tell him you don't want to be with him until he gets his act together.
