Im 14, and just started high school, and im in Marine Corps. Junior ROTC, and i love the program. But i have to wear my hair in a bun when i wear my unifor,, and my hair is layered and somewhat short, wich makes it hard, but if my hair was shorted i wouldnt have to mess with it. Problem....My dad is a preacher, and he thinks girls shouldnt cut thier hair...period. Im tired of having to try to put my hair up for an hour when i could just cut it! i really want to anyways. He tells me that its un christian like for girls to cut thier hair that short, and its really annoying. What do i do?

Your dad lives in the dark ages. Just cut your hair.

You could tell your father that you're quiting ROTC. Would he prefer that?
Sounds like he is a bit controlling. What does your mother say? She must understand. Or does she just go along with everything your father wants?

A much as I say it's not right to disrespect your father by going against his wishes, he's never been a girl so he doesn't understand this business with the hair at all. I too am a Christian, a Catholic Christian and I've never seen anything in the rule book about hair length for girls. I believe this is something your father has a hang up about. If you can't get your mom to help persuade him, I'd say use a lot of pins and hair spray until you're old enough to do what you like.

Drama, Drama, Drama. Really how many times a week do you wear your uniform? Once, maybe twice?
Seriously, You live with your dad right? Just think of how many things he has done/is doing which he really may not exactly want to do to give you the opportunity to even be on a computer and ask such a selfish question. Regardless of religion ( which by the way the bible does say 'a women's hair is her glory') your dad deserves a little respect from you. You say you are 14. It will not be to long before you should be out in your own place, and having to deal with real issues, which most of them are 'not fair' or 'too strict'. Until then you should thank God, and your parents, that the worst issue you have is how hard it is to put your hair up in a bun on days you wear your uniform.

He has a right to his opinions but personally I don't think a woman or girl having short hair is "unchristian-like" AT ALL! If you would rather cut your hair than have to deal with the fuss then go for it! I'm sure he would get used to it and come to see that you are the same person no matter the length of your hair

I'm 55 with three kids and 4 grandkids, and I think your dad is putting restrictions on you that have nothing to with the Bible or un-Christian behavior. Where does it say in the Bible how long a girl's hair should be? Where does it say how long a guy's hair shoulod be? It doesn't! He (your dad) just doesn't want it that way, but won't admit it. I would be proud of a daughter who would adhere to the discipline of Marine Corps R.O.T.C., but he is your father. If you do continue to struggle with it for an hour every day to participate in R.O.T.C., it is to show love and respect for your father; it has nothing to do with Christian or non-Christian behavior.

I personally do not see what a hair cut has to do with Christianity...or ANY type of religion. It sounds stupid to me. But his house, his rules. You don't really have a choice. The only loophole would be your mother. My mother is good at talking my father into things or at least, making him realize he's being wrong in a situation or a little over the top. Try it out.

Continue to honor your father, as it seems you have been doing. Since you are fourteen, you are obviously under his authority so you need to obey him. You can continue to plead your case with him, with respect. Maybe you can even research Christian literature regarding women cutting their hair, for the majority of Christian churches do not see short hair on girls as sinful in any way. If he doesn't budge, try going to a salon to get ideas for a quicker way to pull up your hair so it's not such a hassle. Good luck and keep the faith!

Because you are only 14 years old and still live under your parents roof and they are completely providing for you, it is your responsibility to obey your parents -- just as the Bible teaches. When you move out of your parents house and are completely independent of them, that's when you can cut your hair or do anything else you like. This is just a lesson in growing up. Just remember, you will always have someone telling you what to do for the rest of your life. When you are able to work, your boss will do the pleasures of telling you what to do.

If your dad is a preacher he should know better than allowing you to be in the Marine Corps. Junior ROTC. Cutting your hair is not that significant because God will not judge you for physical appearances. God judges us by what's in our hearts.

If you want to be in the Marines or any related military organization you have to obey their rules.

Guess you better choose.

But as to your original question about whether the rule is to strict....

It doesn't really matter. 14 year old girls do not set the rules for the Marine ROTC. Its the other way around...

I think that is rather strict. I think girls get lost in long hair and generally look better in a shorter style. He si your dad though so you have to abide by his rules. Maybe if you told him why...sometimes dads just like their girls to have long hair. I don't get it myself. He had better learn to pick his battles or he will have real problems down the road. What religion anyway?? Does it say short hair is forbidden in the Bible?
