It should be beautiful, with the fall foliage, and the natural beauty of the province, you are in for a treat.

Welcome, and enjoy your stay.

Don't make the mistake of just driving through New Brunswick in a rush to get to NS. NB will be drop dead gorgeous in the autumn colurs and it is more heavily forested than NS. Every turn in the road brings a more beautiful scene, and the lookouts on the hills are breathtaking. And every so often, you will cross a covered bridge. The world's longest covered bridge is at Hartland, NB.

Don't miss Saint John on the Bay of Fundy, with the highest tides in the world. See the harbour area, the magnificent heritage preservation area in the heart of downtown, the Reversing Falls (yes, they actually flow two ways) and all the wonderful drive along the Bay. Be sure to see Hopewell Rocks where you can walk across the ocean floor at low tide and see the unique "flowerpot rocks".

And don't forget lobster, scallops, clams, mussels, salmon and every kind of fish imaginable. Have a great trip!

There may still be some warm days in October, but nights are guaranteed to be cool. Watch out for accumulations of wet leaves on the back roads, they are as slippery as ice. Most campgrounds, etc. will be closed for the season even if the weather is still nice. I'm afraid October in Nova Scotia can go either way. It can give you crisp mornings that give way to glorious sunny and warm afternoons, or else it may give you cold rain. I would say try to plan it so you have a fallback indoor activity, like the Marine Museum in Halifax, on any given day. In October you would definitely want to tour the Annapolis valley and visit a vineyard, eat apples, see giant pumpkins, etc.

The mistake many people make when visiting the Maritimes is not scheduling enough time for them. The region looks so small on the map, compared to other parts of North America, that it's deceiving.

The history of the continent starts here. It has a lot of US connections, the roots of Cajun culture are here, there's an active Celtic culture. There's great food. Some decent wines. The only single malt whisky distilled in North America is here.

You should also check out the Celtic Colours Festival. celtic-colours.ca

Halifax is a funky little capital: seven universities, large Buddhist community, lots of museums and pubs.
