Is this realistic? Would you do it? Why or Why not?

It's not a new concept. People have been doing it for tens of thousands of years. Realistically it's impossible to do in a modern society. Mostly because you would need land on which to live, grow your food, and create your energy, and the money to acquire and pay taxes on that land. That means needing to have a job, which will negate your auto sufficiency right from the start.

If you are independently wealthy and have lots of land you may be successful. It would be a full-time occupation.
I doubt it would ever be practical for the typical individual.
All the details required to maintain such a system would be so labor intensive and require such a broad spectrum of expertise I doubt it could ever be practical for the individual.
For a dedicated community... maybe okay.
