I would save the money and if you need anything ask your dad for it. I would go to shcool and do the very best I could, get into a good college and then get a job to help pay for it, and then go out on my own and know when it is all over and done with,WHY dad said to save your money.

I'm thinking that your dad wont let you get a job because he is afraid it will interfere with your school work. Did your dad say no to all jobs? Maybe you can ask him if you can at least get a part time babysitting job. That way you can still go to college and make your own money too. You might want to look on the Internet for your local youth employment services. They offer jobs to people ages 16-25. Show your dad that you can be responsible, he just might change his mind. Good Luck!

Tell him that the whole point of giving a child allowance is to teach them to make their own decisions about how to spend money properly. How will you learn if you won't let you? If he's GIVING you the money, it's yours and he has little say about how you spend it (aside from illegal things or what he deems inappropriate like tatoos).
Keep in mind, a hostile conversation might just make him take the allowance away completely.
Plus, he won't let you get a job? How about a paper route? Great way to get in shape too!

Don't know how old you are. But, I have a 13 year old daughter. Obviously she is to young for a job, but can babysit etc for spending money. Her allowance is hers to do whatever with. But I always encouraged her to be frugal and save, yet, I tried to make sure she wasn't over setting her goals. You get presents from parents several times a year, and if you are smart you let them know what is REALLY tugging at your purse strings so they will hopefully make the expenditure and you don't have to. Other than that, you need to talk to dad and ask him, tactfully, respectfully, what the problem is.

i've been trying to get one and no place will hire lol.
but why don't you ask him what you're supposed to be saving up for with the money he gives you.. and if he says 'college' ask if he expects you to pay for all of it with this $5 a week thing
