Modified is the most common used.
It does depend on the shot size you use and the range you plan to shoot.
Dove have a bad habit of learning to avoid the hunters, and stay out of range.
I use only 7 ½ or 6 shot and take both Modified and Full chocks out on a dove hunt.
The 7 ½ or 6 shot give me a better range when using the full chock.
In 5 days that is what I will have out with me.

I have one shotgun IC and Mod for early season and switch to one that's Mod and Full after the season progresses. Down here in the deep south, they've been shot at a lot and get shy after the first week or two. Seems impossible for migratory little birds, but it's noticeable.

Doves ? is that the same doves I feed in the bird feeder
day after day that I've almost gotten to light on
my hand ?. Don't understand, what's your definition of
"hunting"? do you use a blind ?
(you KNOW what choke I'd use)

Single barreled gun - modified.
Double barreled gun - probably improved cylinder and modified. I'm used to them being closer than they get to most.
