I heard all the hype about the Passion of Christ movie. I went to see it hearing that it was a "wonderful witness" to people. I found it absolutely horrid. I guess someone could be drawn to Christ by watching him be crucified, but wouldn't it have been a wonderful witness to seen his life in action?
I found the movie to be a bloody mess. I felt like I was in the theater with a bunch of "Faces of Death" fans. I cringed in horror at all the gore.
Also, just a side note, Jesus was not second guessing his faith when he quoted the first line of Psalm 22. That whole Psalm is a prophecy expressing the deep agony of the Messiah's death for the world's sin. Jesus knew he would be temporarily separated form God the moment he took upon himself the sins of the world The physical agony was horrible, but the spiritual alienation from God was the ultimate torture.

My friend summed it up best: "A Clockwork Messiah". Though at least "A Clockwork Orange" had some kind of redeeming plot value.
And as Roger Ebert pointed out, if the character in the film had been anybody else but Jesus, the film would have been rated NC-17.
The movie was nothing but guilt-trip gorefest.

This statement did not mean Jesus was second-guessing his faith. The Father turned his back on the Son because the Son was our sin-bearer, and the Father cannot bear the sight of our sin.

That quote was a reference to Psalm 22 about the suffering of the Messiah. He faith was not in doubt, in fact he was trying to tell people, even at the cross, who he was. Psalm 22.

I know how Jesus died, why does anyone feel the masochistic need to view it? I saw it because the church showed it. It was brutal, and hard to watch. And definitely not recommended for the squeamish.

Well after 2000 years, they still made Mary Magdelene look like a hooker. It's just a movie.

Christ wasn't "second guessing" when He asked that. He knew why God turned away from Him. It was because He took on the sins of the world and God can't look upon sin.
Please don't try to explain Christianity when you aren't a Christian. You only embarrass yourself.

It made Christ more real, more human than a character in a book.

Beautifully done but very sad and brutel as to what Jesus had to go thru for our sins. I cried and cried. Makes me ashamed of myself and the human race.
