I would like to use it for lineart, drawing, and coloring. Is there a huge difference between CS3 and CS2 I should know about?

I'd recommend you go with Illustrator instead of Photoshop. Illustrator is vector-based and you'll be able to have much greater control over drawing and colors. I use both extensively at work, but I prefer Illustrator, hands-down, over Photoshop, for drawing lineart.

I have ran Photoshop 4, 5, 6, 7, CS, CS2, and CS3. honestly, there isn't much i can do in CS3 that i couldn't do in 4. Just get what is more cost effective for you.

You've got it backwards.

CS3 is the latest and best version. CS2 is older and does not have as many features. CS3 is way better.

Since you are talking about drawing, you may want to use Adobe Illustrator CS3 not PhotoShop.

I personally like CS2 better seems easier to use more person friendly once you get use to it. I am a graphic designer at www.madgfx.com and I also color some lineart for people you can see my latest here http://tonkpils666.deviantart.com/

* GIMP for UNIX (including Linux).
