get it fixed. perhaps the receipt for the part and/or the mechanics bill. bring these documents to the
DISTRICT ATTORNEY, well before the court date. i would be surprised if he did not at least have the charges reduced to a non-moving violation. having a clean prior record will help you
beyond belief

It should have been rather obvious that something was wrong when you were passing everyone as if they were at a stand still. Pay your ticket. Get your speedometer fixed, but don't try to fight it, as you will probably end up with another ticket for having a broken speedometer.

Pay the fine and get your car fixed.

If you try to get out of ticket by saying that your speedometer is broken they'll issue you another ticket for that reason alone.

They give tickets for broken tail lights - you don't think they give tickets for broken speedometers??

Get the speedometer fixed. You're lucky they didn't give you a ticket for the faulty equipment. Pay the fine. It will save you alot of grief.

You needed a speedometer? Didn't all the slow moving cars as you were whizzing past them 20 mph faster than them give you a clue that maybe your speedometer is maybe malfunctioning?

Take your car and have the speedometer calibrated (or something like that) and get documentation showing that is was broken. Then, take that to court with you, otherwise, pay the ticket.

That happened to me once. On the day I was to show up in court I took to the judge a receipt where my spedometer was repaired. The ticket was thrown out. This was not in NC though. I don't know how a judge could argue with a mechanic about his job. A mechanic wouldn't argue with the judge about his. Get my meaning? Good luck.

Pay the fine
get the speedometer fixed
and don't go to court thinking that ANY "excuse" is going to be accepted here !! It just doesn't fly !!

Nothing. The officer could have cited you for faulty equipment also. Because your speedometer was not working correctly does not change the fact that you exceeded the speed limit; wheather you intended to or not, you still broke the law. It is your responsibility to maintain the mechanic integrity of your vehicle.

Get a licensed auto mechanic to document that it isn't working properly. Get it fixed and document that too.

Go in front of the judge, present your documents and ask that the charge be changed to 'faulty equipment' or whatever the equivalent is in your state. Offer to plead guilty to that lesser charge and pay the fine.

Pay the fine.
