Can the width of porcelain crowns be shaved down?

If any dentist tells you they can without new crowns... RUN! I'm afraid not because it will compromise the integrity of the crown and take off the finish.... the tooth would end up not looking natural.... besides there is metal under the porcelain and you don't know how thick it is when reducing it. Some dentists will have to reduce the top (chewing) surface of the crown someones... but hopefully not much because the porcelain could fracture. If you aren't happy with your crowns, tell your dentist! Good luck!

SOMEONE SAID, "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE". SHAVING DOWN A PORCELAIN CROWN THAT'S TOO WIDE IS IMPOSSIBLE. IT'S HEIGHT CAN BE ADJUSTED IF TOO HIGH, BUT NOT THE WIDTH.
A NEW CROWN NEEDS TO BE MADE.

They don't normally do this since a crown is a thinner layer. They will need to take the crown off and make another.
