Wow, bad answers all around.
Certain states restrict certain types of weapons for certain people.
In general, automatic weapons are heavily controlled, but not illegal. I can own one here in CO, if I wanted to give up my fourth amendment rights to the BATF, pay $200 in a special tax, and get the local sheriff to sign the paperwork.
Suppressors are the same deal, as are all short barreled (under 18") rifles and shotguns, and explosives, destructive devices, etc. In other words, if you are willing to pay the piper, and put up with his crap, you can likely own the weapon of your choice.
It is even legal to make your own weapon, as long as you do not sell it. See question A6 in the link below.

Yes. Fully automatic weapons are illegal everywhere in the USA. Some states have different laws about the legality of guns. Under my sources there is a list of Gun Laws by State.

Fully automatic weapons are illegal UNLESS you have them registered with the proper agencies. Also, "Saturday Night Specials" which are homemade guns are also illegal.

Well you must have a permit to legally own any firearms. BUT One that comes to mind for the average citizen is a machine gun. UNLESS you have a federal license.

i am not sure. i think federal , states and cities do not always agree. there are classifications to firearms licenses. extra fees/taxes/background checks for licensing.
in tennesse, i believe , it is legal to carry a handgun. there was something on cnn about a woman going into the sears tower in illinois with her gun in her purse. she went through the metal detectors and it went off. she did not know that the states had different laws. she was licensed in her home state and was in illinois on vacation. in minnesota , on the mayo clinic doors , there is a sign that says no guns allowed in the buildings. so i think that guns must be legal in minnesota.
i would check with your state who licenses them or ask at a gun store to find out what is legal.
